If you’ve missed the city’s street food vendors during lockdown, you’ll be happy to know that you can get everything from bao buns to hot dogs from Kirkgate Market this weekend.

The Market Kitchen at Leeds Kirkgate Market is four years old this month, and to celebrate, they’re giving you the chance to get your street food fix at home. Their vendors will be back in business on Saturdays, so you can get your fill of Yorkshire pudding wraps, shawarma sandwiches and jerk chicken wings.

It’s been organised by the Kirkgate Collective, a group of traders from Leeds Kirkgate Market. They’ve banded together to find a way to survive in these difficult times and their first move is a click and collect service. You can check out their menus online – just make sure you place your order before their Thursday deadline.

Kanassa will create Fiesta Packs for you to heat up at home with everything from arepas to chipotle black beans. You can also get a Kanassa Essentials Kit, which has everything you need to make your own Colombian feast. Over at Manjit’s Kitchen, they’re selling meal kit for two or you can order individual dishes like their house lentil dhal and butternut squash kofta.

Fancy an Asian feast? Place an order with Banh & Mee! They’re putting together Combo Boxes, featuring everything from fried chicken baos to tofu summer rolls. Vegan? No problem, they’ve made an entire box just for you. For a taste of the Middle East, head to Istanbul Bakery for chicken shawarma sandwiches or check out the incredible mixed kebabs at Mr Mackerel.

Elsewhere, The Yorkshire Wrap Co will be dishing up slow roast beef Yorkshire pudding wraps, loaded with red cabbage, onions and lashings of gravy. Fat Annie’s are opening too and they’re serving hot dog and burger boxes ready to eat or chilled for you to cook at home. Don’t forget Jenny’s Jerk Chicken either, where you can get heaving meal boxes full of wings, dumplings and patties for up to 6 people.

You can’t just turn up, you have to order and book a collection time in advance. Each trader has two slots every 15 minutes between 10am to 4pm on Saturday – but they’re booking up fast, so you’ll need to get in there quick. Want to order from more than one place? No problem, just schedule your pick-up times as close together as you can to avoid repeat visits.

It’s been a tough few months for the traders in Kirkgate Market Kitchen, but this initiative shows their desire to keep going, so do your bit to help them out this weekend and get stuck into an almighty feast.

Click & Collect from the Kirkgate Market Kitchen takes place on Saturday 13th June 2020. Orders must be made online by Thursday 11th June 2020. No drop-ins allowed.
