The hotel itself is a sophisticated affair, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city and all the mod cons. They’ve converted the old Leeds City Tramways Office into a first class hotel with 100 beautifully decorated rooms. In terms of location, you’re well placed to make the most of the city. Popular nightspot, Call Lane is mere minutes away, as is the waterfront, Trinity Leeds and Leeds Train Station. Of course, you might be tempted to dine in the hotel, with their swish bar and restaurant, Chez Mal, serving up delicious food and cocktails. The hotel itself is rather impressive, with a Portland Stone façade that gives way to art deco styling within. Although Oulton Hall sits outside the city centre, there are plenty of reasons to choose to stay here. For a start, it’s a beautiful 18th century former mansion, filled with original features, and is surrounded by 300 acres of parkland, including landscaped gardens and a 27 hole golf course. 5. Crowne Plaza

A favourite with business travellers, due to its position in close proximity to Leeds Train Station, as well as the city’s thriving business district, Crowne Plaza is an excellent choice if you’re looking for somewhere nice to lay your head, with a range of facilities at your disposal. The Jurys Inn is perfect if you’re looking for stylish accommodation that meets all your needs. But nice as the rooms are, they’re not the highlight, because Thorpe Park Hotel also has a spa, and your stay will give you temporary membership, so you can visit the pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room – or book one of their massages or treatments, although this may cost extra, depending on your package. 8. Radisson Blu

Less than 5 minutes walk from Leeds Train Station, Radisson Blu is a sleek hotel that sits right at the heart of the action. You’ll be sandwiched between Leeds Town Hall, first direct Arena and Trinity Leeds, with a host of restaurants on your doorstep at The Light.

The 147 room hotel can be found in a Grade II listed building that was once home to Leeds Permanent Building Society. Hazlewood Castle is definitely one of the most impressive hotels in Leeds, although it is 30 minutes from the city centre. It’s a popular wedding venue, and when you see it, you’ll know why – it’s a beautiful Grade I listed building set in 77 acres of parkland. There’s loads of history to discover here – after all, it was mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1086.

Inside, they have 39 bedrooms and suites, all decorated in lavish style, and you’ll find yourself with everything you could want – think flat screen TVs, freeview, complimentary wifi and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. They also have a spa that you can take advantage of while you’re here, which includes a relaxation room, Serail mud chamber, manicure stations and treatment rooms, where you can get a massage or facial. If you’re looking for something a little more unique, 42 The Calls will be right up your street. It’s a small, boutique hotel on the Leeds waterfront, with just 41 rooms, so you can expect it to have a personal touch. The walls are covered with original paintings and drawings – and you’ll find homemade shortbread and fudge in your room.

The hotel itself will give you a little glimpse of Leeds’ history, as it’s been converted from an old corn mill, a remnant of the city’s industrial past. As such, you’ll find lots of character details in the rooms, as well as free wifi, TVs and satellite channels. They have a range of rooms to suit individuals, couples and families.

12. Weetwood Hall

A 15 minute drive from Leeds Train Station, Weetwood Hall offers an alternative to the usual city centre hotels. It’s set in 9 acres of woodlands and gardens, which means you can enjoy long walks and more than a little exploring, while remaining within easy reach of Headingley and the city centre.

This is a four star hotel, so you’ll be in lavish surroundings, whichever room you choose, but there are some that stand out above the rest. How would you like to stay in a traditional four poster bed? You can with their Feature Bedrooms, which are really very impressive. Even their standard rooms come with LED TVs, free wifi and room service, as well as bottled water, chocolates and biscuits.

The Chambers is a little bit different. It’s not a hotel, it’s serviced apartments, which means you’ll have oodles of space and kitchen facilities so you can cook up a feast with all the lovely local Yorkshire produce available in Leeds. They’re just 5 minutes from Leeds Train Station, which means you can settle right in and you’ll be right at the heart of the action.

You can choose from a range of different apartments, with studio, one and two bedroom flats available to rent by the night. They’re all done up to a high standard, with a stylish decor and everything you need to settle in, including flat screen TVs with Sky channels and free wifi access, but unlike Leeds’ hotels, you’ll also have a fully fitted kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Woodlands is a half hour drive from Leeds Train Station, but again, it offers something a city centre hotel never could – a picturesque country location, set amidst beautifully landscaped gardens, giving you the perfect blend of city break and country retreat.

The hotel was originally made for a local textile mill owner in 1871, and has been lovingly restored to create 23 individually designed rooms, each with their own unique personality. Each room has fluffy robes, complimentary wifi and a TV with freeview. Their Mulsanne restaurant offers a menu of seasonal dishes made with local ingredients, which you can enjoy while looking out over the grounds.

15. Hotel Ibis

If it’s cheap and cheerful accommodation you’re after, Ibis is your best bet. This is one of the city’s finest budget hotels and it’s just 8 minutes’ walk from Leeds Train Station. We’re not talking 4 star luxury here, it’s basic but comfortable, with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

The Ibis has more than a few perks. For example, you get free wifi, satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities – you can even bring your pets and check in online to speed up the process. In the morning, they have an all you can eat buffet that will set you up for the day (or help you recover from the night before, it is after all, just a short walk to the lively nightspot of Greek Street).
