Smokestack is turning 10 and they’re pulling out all the stops with a huge line-up of DJs and live music in the next few months.
Well – that went fast didn’t it? It’s been a decade since Smokestack opened their doors on Lower Briggate, blending amazing cocktails with incredible DJs and live music. They’ve built up a reputation for being the go-to place to hear soul, funk, jazz and blues music and they’re emphasising just why over the next few months, with the likes of Huey Morgan and Norman Jay MBE come to town.
Soul Jazz Sound System
Soul Jazz is one of the most renowned independent record labels in the UK. Since 1992, they’ve been influencing the music scene across a slew of genres, and you can see their Sound System in action on Friday 29th September 2017. DJs Scott Bethell and Pete Reilly are coming to Smokestack to play everything from reggae, soul and jazz to ska, dub and Latin music in a night that promises to get you moving until the early hours.

As part of the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, New Yorker Huey Morgan has sold millions of records around the world and he’s bringing his diverse taste in music to Smokestack for a huge night on the decks to celebrate their 10th birthday. From hip-hop jams to soul classics, funk hits and indie bangers, you can see the BBC 6 Music DJ serve up a rare set in Leeds on Thursday 5th October 2017.

Norman Jay MBE
Norman Jay MBE is one of the most respected funk and soul DJs in the UK – so much so, he has the title to back it up. He’s bringing his legendary ‘Original Rare Groove Show’ from Kiss FM to Leeds for a very special, one-off set to celebrate Smokestack’s decade of great music an Friday 20th October 2017. He’ll be spinning some of the finest hard-to-find funk and soul hits from the past four decades, well until the early hours – it’s an unmissable night.

Smokestack All Stars
The Smokestack All Stars show is an absolute one-off that celebrates the very best music Smokestack has played over the past 10 years on Wednesday 15th November 2017. They’re curating an exclusive line-up that features a supergroup of the finest musicians ever to have graced the Smokestack stage. Expect to see members of The Haggis Horns, The New Mastersounds, JD73 and plenty more, as they continue to announce new acts in the run-up to the event.

The Vinyl Junkies DJ Collective
In a similar vein to the Smokestack All Stars, The Vinyl Junkies DJ Collective brings together the finest DJs to have spun tunes on the venue’s decks over the past 10 years. They’re digging deep into the crates on Friday 17th November 2017 to find the best vinyl classics and rarities for a night to remember. Expect to see the likes of Chico Malo, Paul Dunphy, Marko Crossley and John Hope bring the party, with each DJ playing a vinyl-only set.
