Find out all about Drake’s visit to Leeds in 2017 including when tickets go on sale.

Grammy award winning hip-hop superstar Drake is coming to Leeds in 2017 for a huge show at First Direct Arena.

One of the biggest names in popular music is making his way to Leeds at the start of 2017 and you’ll need to be prepared for the ticket rush. Hip-hop icon Drake brings The Boy Meets the World tour to First Direct Arena on Wednesday 8th February 2017, with tickets going on sale Friday 14th October 2016 at 9am.

It’s been a huge 12 months for the Toronto-born rapper whose fourth record ‘Views’ rocketed to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, with its reign on the Billboard 200 Chart lasting for an incredible 13 weeks. It has also bagged him the record for most number 1s on the Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Chart with a remarkable 16.

There’s no doubting his popularity and that was backed up by his sell-out 57-date ‘Summer Sixteen’ jaunt across the US. And now he’s kicking off 2017 in a similar fashion with a huge 14 date tour of the UK, which includes a staggering six nights at The O2 in London alongside the First Direct Arena show before heading to mainland Europe for a further 12 dates on the continent, making up what will be one of the most in-demand tours of the year.

It’s confirmation, if you needed any, of Drake’s status as a global music icon. The Grammy-award winning and platinum selling artist has come a long way from spending summers with his drummer Dad in Memphis, Tennessee to making his first moves in the entertainment world as the star of Canadian TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation.

From there, he bagged a support slot with Lil Wayne in 2008 which led to the release of his breakthrough mixtape ‘So Far Gone’ the following year. That was followed by the hugely successful ‘Thank Me Later’ in 2010, ‘Take Care’ in 2011 and ‘Nothing Was The Same’ in 2013, as well as mixtapes ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ and ‘What a Time to Be Alive’, the latter a collaboration with Future.

In just five years, Drake has managed to be both prolific and successful, becoming one of the most creative and influential musicians on the planet. 2016 has just confirmed this even moreso, with ‘Views’ cementing his status. Drake’s arrival in Leeds is a huge coup for the city, and shows just how having an internationally-renowned major music venue can bring the biggest and the brightest to our part of the world.

Drake is at First Direct Arena on Wednesday 8th February 2017. Tickets go on sale on Friday 14th October 2016 at 9am.
