Hacienda Classical is coming back to First Direct Arena and they’re all set to reimagine a whole new stash of dance classics with an orchestra.
Hacienda Classical is a pioneering event. It was the first of its kind, a unique clubnight that brought classic dance tunes together with a live orchestra and it’s headed back to Leeds in autumn. It’s going out on its third UK tour, including a special date in Leeds at First Direct Arena on Saturday 29th September 2018.
It’s the brainchild of former Hacienda DJs Graeme Park and Mike Pickering and New Order bassist Peter Hook. They wanted to breathe new life into the dance anthems of the 1980s and early 1990s – what better way to do it, than by teaming up with the Manchester Camerata’s conductor Tim Crooks? Together, they reinvented the hits of yesteryear as classical compositions, making them sound better than ever before.
Hacienda Classical launched in Manchester in February 2016 and it has been a massive success since, with over 150,000 people attending 25 concerts. Why has it gone down so well? The DJs, alongside the Camerata and the AMC Gospel Choir, have taken generation-defining anthems and made them feel new. We’re talking songs like Inner City’s Good Life, Black Box’s Ride On Time and Candi Staton’s You Got The Love. Not only that, but each show has welcomed special guests too, like Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder and even Peter Hook himself.
“We’re continually looking to improve the show and next year’s will be bigger and better,” Park explained. “It has to be after the immense success of this year’s show. We’ll probably keep some songs and bring back some from 2016, but there will be lots of new songs, new guests and some surprises too. The timeless and epic quality of the music is the main reason that everyone loves the show whilst the amazing musicians and singers on the stage make sure that the songs shine through.”
A night of feel-good dance classics like you’ve never heard before awaits you at Hacienda Classical. So what are you waiting for? Get it in the diary.
