Fat White Family performing live

The annual NME Awards Tour has been confirmed for O2 Academy Leeds in February and features four of the UK’s most popular indie bands.

As traditional as Christmas, a year without an NME Awards Tour invading Leeds for a night of rock’n’roll fun is not worth thinking about – so thankfully, 2015 is no different than the past twenty years with the music mag’s annual jaunt bringing together some top talent.

Headlining O2 Academy Leeds on Friday 20th February 2015 is London’s Palma Violets. They broke through at the end of 2012 with ‘Best of Friends’, named NME’s song of the year, before releasing debut album ‘180’ the following March. Their second record is already in the works with the help of John Leckie and Guy Massey, so you can expect old favourites and new tracks as Palma Violets make their return.

They’ll be joined by one of 2014’s most brilliant bands – The Fat White Family. 2013’s ‘Champagne Holocaust’ slowly filtered through to the record buying masses last year, after the London band toured relentlessly, including two stunning sets at Leeds and Beacons Festival in 2014.

Also on the bill is Glasgow’s feral punks, The Amazing Snakeheads whose debut ‘Amphetamine Ballads’ was one of the filthiest, most scornful records of 2014. Despite the departure of the original bassist and drummer in the summer, Dale Barclay continues to spit his tunes out with a new band and a new focus that will probably see them steal the show.

Opening up the NME Awards Tour is a prestigious affair. It might only be a twenty minute set, but the likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Coral, Coldplay and Kaiser Chiefs have all taken the opportunity and run with it.

2015’s openers are Slaves, one hell of a noisy two piece from Tunbridge Wells who opened for Jamie T at O2 Academy Leeds back in October. No doubt they’ll set the tone for the rest of the night, with their garage punk tunes like ‘Where’s Your Car Debbie? and “The Hunter” pulling no punches and earning them a place on the BBC Sound of 2015 shortlist.

Another year, another NME Awards Tour – and 2015 is shaping up nicely with four of the best live bands in the country.

NME Awards Tour 2015 featuring Palma Violets, The Fat White Family, The Amazing Snakeheads and Slaves is at O2 Academy Leeds at 7pm on Friday 20th February 2015. Tickets are available now.
