With seven successful events behind them, Wharfest is back this October with a day of food, drink and live music…

Wharfest returns this October, bigger and better than ever with their eighth festival of live entertainment on the waterfront. You can enjoy acoustic acts in Craft Asylum #1, live bands in The Hop and DJs ’til late at Archies – all for free. So what are you waiting for? Round up your mates and make a day of it from 3pm on Saturday 5th October 2019.

Live acoustic sets at Craft Asylum #1

Craft Asylum #1 will welcome a quartet of acoustic acts from 3pm until late. It kicks off with Andy Balcon, a bluesy folk-rocker who’s set to play through new EP, ‘Who Am I?’ Jamie Squire will perform contemporary acoustic covers and golden oldies at 5pm, before Ellie Coast puts her unique jazz spin on pop and rock classics at 7pm. Finally, headliner Sleepy Jake takes to the stage at 9pm to regale you with gritty tunes that blend folk-punk with street poetry.

Craft beer is the order of the day at Craft Asylum #1. It’s a Salt Beer Factory bar and you have 14 keg taps to choose from – seven of them are home to Salt’s own creations and the other seven rotate on a weekly basis with tipples from some of the UK’s best breweries. There are cask taps, cans and bottles too, as well as over 50 artisan craft gins.

An all-dayer with live bands at The Hop

Over at The Hop, you can enjoy an afternoon of swingin’ 60s tunes courtesy of Get Back Beats at 3pm, before Untameable Puppies play their party-time funk hits at 5pm and The Cheats show off their 90s indie covers at 7pm. The headline set comes from Brothers on the Slide, local legends who will take you through their arsenal of classic soul and funk anthems from 9pm.

The Hop is famed for its ale, so make your way through the full Ossett Brewery range or try one of their guest beers, after lining your stomach with one of their award-winning Jones’ Pies, served with creamy mash and beer-infused mushy peas.

DJs until late at Archie’s

Over at Archie’s, they’re offering something entirely different. From 10am to 2pm, you can stop by for their usual weekend breakfasts – get set for the day with Arnie’s Omelette, Eggs Florentine Royal or their famous All-day Fry Up. Then from 12pm, you can also get their main menu, which means there are burgers, pizzas and hot dogs to indulge in.

Archie’s is a relaxed place to spend an hour between gigs during the day, but in the evening, this is where the party’s at. Things start to hot up at 9pm, as the dance floor comes to life with DJs playing a heady mix of soul, Motown, chart, funk and indie. Get your dancing shoes on! And if you’re one of the first 100 people to buy a drink in all three venues, you can collect a stamp in each one and grab a free t-shirt.

Wharfest is on Saturday 5th October 2019 at Craft Asylum #1, The Hop and Archie’s on Granary Wharf. It’s absolutely free to attend – no tickets necessary, just show up and enjoy.
