Gaming bars, sandwich shops, theatre spaces – all this and more are coming to Leeds very soon.
A few weeks go by and another horde of impending arrivals start revealing their plans for Leeds domination. And what a bunch we’ve got for you this time around. A trio of well-known Leeds names are branching out with new venues promising sarnies, sailfish and shows, but that’s just the start. Three eclectic new bars are just around the corner too, while city centre plant lovers are in for a treat. Want all the details? Grab a brew and read on…
Things in Bread

Who doesn’t love things in bread? The simple name fronts a straightforward project from the doughnut slingers and Doh’hut. They’re branching out into the sandwich game from January 2023, kicking off the new year by giving their refined take on classic sarnie combos, made using bread baked in house. Get ready for roast chicken salad on focaccia, egg & cress on chunky loaves and BLT on ciabatta. Lunchtime just got interesting.
Things in Bread opens on Boar Lane on 6th January 2023.
The End

Mook was a decades-old Leeds legend, but change is inevitable and so The End was nigh. And that’s the name of what the old will become from late November. Expect elegance from a destination bar that’s being developed by a team of folks who’ve run the likes of The Botanist, Mission and Bar Fibre in the past. DJs will soundtrack visits with funk, house and soul across two bar areas, trendily decorated with plush furniture, with space to show off your moves.
The End opens on Hirst’s Yard on 24th November 2022.
The Bierkeller Christmas Market

It’s been a few years since Bierkeller closed its Leeds bar, but it’s set to make a sensational, albeit temporary, return this November. It’s taking over a long-empty unit at the corner of Boar Lane and New Station Street to bring a touch of Bavarian joy to the city centre. You can look forward to classic German market eats, from currywurst to pretzels, alongside plenty of boozy tipples – gluhwein anyone? They’re also showing the World Cup on big screens.
The Bierkeller Christmas Market will open at 23 Boar Lane in November 2022.
Test Bar

Award-winning distillery, John Robert’s Botanic Request, are relocating to Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley and opening up a new cocktail bar at the same time. Test Bar will be taking over part of the famous Twisting building, transforming it into a statement watering hole where you can also enjoy cocktail masterclasses. You’ll be able to sample their two acclaimed spirits, the London Dry and the Electric Rose, alongside a whole range of classic and creative cocktails.
Test Bar is opening at Sunny Bank Mills on Saturday 5th November 2022.
Poppy’s Potting Shed Pop-Up

Poppy’s Potting Shed is one of the best-loved plant shops in Leeds, but you don’t have to head out to Burley to pick up positively pretty plants this Christmas – they’re coming to the city centre until Christmas Eve! They’re popping up inside Harvey Nichols for six weeks, so you can treat your loved ones (and maybe even yourself) to all kinds of green goodness, from succulents to string of pearls.
Poppy’s Potting Shed is popping up at Harvey Nichols from 7th November until 24th December 2022.
Jamrock

Welcome to Jamrock – it’s back! After closing their Call Lane bar and restaurant back in May, they’re set to reopen on Kirkgate in the former Domino’s Pizza unit. So what can you look forward to? Owner Oral Blackford is promising everything that made folks fall in love with it first time around – exquisite Caribbean cooking, from ackee and sailfish to curried goat, jerk chicken and pepper steak. Throw in bottomless brunch, exotic cocktails and you’ve got heaven.
Jamrock is opening on Kirkgate in 2023.
Boom Battle Bar

Get ready for battle because a whole new gaming bar experience is opening at Victoria Gate this November. Boom is taking over two floors with the ultimate competition – you can look forward to everything from augmented reality darts to crazy golf, axe throwing, beer pong, American pool and shuffleboard, all under one roof. Increase the competitive factor with craft beers and unique cocktails, while you can also tuck into eats from a street-food-style menu.

Slung Low

Their stewardship of The Holbeck has been a huge success, now local theatre company Slung Low are set to open their second theatre and production space in the nearby Temple Arches district in 2023. A two-year lease has been agreed at 131 Water Lane, which will see them make use of an old warehouse as a rehearsal, production and working space for indie artists and companies, while a new outdoor stage will host pay-as-you-feel shows.
