Want to know about the latest additions coming to Leeds? You’re in luck, because we’ve got nine more to tell you about…
It never slows down, does it? New places are opening left, right and centre, with a little something for everyone – and we’ve got 9 more to tell you about today. You’ve got a lot to look forward to – there’s a new tap room from a popular Leeds brewery, a city centre restaurant from a suburban pizza joint and the first UK opening from a famous European escape game.
Eat Your Greens
Outlaws Yacht Club and The Grub and Grog Shop are teaming up to open a brand new venue this spring. Eat Your Greens will be a new vegetarian restaurant, so you’ll be able to try even more of their creative meat-free dishes, with plenty of options for the vegans too. This won’t just be a restaurant though – they’re also going to have a bar and a grocery store, so you can pick up a few essentials to cook up at home.
Eat Your Greens will open in Leeds city centre in Spring 2018.
Caspar’s Bottle Shop
Hot on the heels of natural wine shop Wayward’s opening, Chapel Allerton is set to get another new addition in the form of Caspar’s Bottle Shop. It’ll be the place to go for craft beer – they’re going to stock the best from Leeds’ own breweries, like North and Northern Monk, as well as favourites from the rest of the country and beyond. Not into beer? Expect a wide array of spirits too, but not the ones you’d find in the supermarket – they’ve got a handpicked selection you might not have tried before.
Caspar’s Bottle Shop will open on Potternewton Lane, Chapel Allerton in late March 2018.
It’s been 18 months since Mod Pizza arrived in Kirkstall and now they’re bringing it into the city centre. From May, you’ll be able to stop by on your lunch or after work, and make your own DIY pizza. You pick one of their sauces, with everything from tomato to BBQ, then go to town on your toppings. You can add your favourite cheeses, meats and all kinds of veggies, then finish it off with their special sauces and spices. And if you don’t like what you’ve made, they’ll let you do it again for no extra cost.
Mod Pizza will open on Bond Street in May 2018.
The Jubilee Hotel
The Jubilee Hotel building on The Headrow will soon be given a new lease of life. The ornate terracotta brick building opposite the Town Hall has been taken over by the same people behind The Bells serviced apartments next to Leeds Minster. Plans for the former gentleman’s club are yet to be revealed, but if they’re similar to their other Leeds venture, you can expect luxury serviced apartments in a prime location.
The Jubilee Hotel will open on The Headrow in late 2018.
There’s another escape room opening this month. Escape Hunt is coming to The Light – they have 50 sites across 30 countries, from Dubai to Paris, but Leeds will be their first in the UK. Get a group of 2 to 6 people together and try their first game, Our Finest Hour. You’ll take on the role of a British secret agent in World War II – can you find the dangerous ‘V Weapons’ and win the war before the 60 minutes are up?
Escape Hunt will open at The Light on Friday 16th March 2018.
Oakwood’s Knickerbocker Shakes is no more, but there’s an exciting replacement waiting in the wings. District Deli will offer a little bit of everything. You can nip in for a coffee or pop by for a sandwich at lunch, but it’s also going to be a grocery store, a delicatessen and a bakery, so you can pick up fresh meat, cheese, veg and bread to take home. There’s even going to be a rotisserie – roast chicken for tea? You bet.
District Deli will open at 484 Roundhay Road in Oakwood in May 2018.
The old Carpe Diem is getting one heck of a makeover this year. PopCity is going to be an underground street food market, with 6 traders changing on a regular basis. That’s not all – it will also have its own microbrewery, gin distillery and cocktail speakeasy, which will be open until 2am during the week and 4am at weekends. Wait, we’re not done – they’re already hard at work on a calendar of events that will include live music, DJs, poets and performers.
PopCity will open on Calverley Street in May 2018.
Smak! The Polish Kitchen
Smak! The Polish Kitchen is a mainstay of the city’s street food events, but soon you’ll be able to eat their scrumptious food every day of the week, because they’ve found a permanent home on Kirkstall Road. Expect classic Polish delicacies like kielbasa sausage, which owners Monika and Neil smoke and cure on a Yorkshire farm 20 miles away, using a family recipe that has been passed down for generations. Alongside the sausage, they’ll be serving pierogis, bigos and barszcz, and there will also be a deli counter, so you can take their Polish treats home with you.
Smak! The Polish Kitchen will open on Kirkstall Road in Spring 2018.
North Brewing Co. Tap Room
2018 is going to be an exciting year for North Brewing Co. The popular brewery-cum-bar is set to spread its wings. They are putting plans in place to open an off-site tap room, where they’ll be showing off the magical work that goes on in the brewery. It’ll allow them to open up their monthly specials and one-off collaborations to the wider public, and of course, you’ll be able to see what one of the best breweries in Leeds is getting up to.
North Brewing Co. Tap Room will open in Leeds in 2018.
