From furniture to vinyl, you’ll find all manner of pre-loved goodies at these little known stores.
There are oodles of vintage stores in Leeds. So many, in fact, that you might well have missed a few – and these three are the prime candidates. Off the beaten track, little known or just so new that you probably haven’t stumbled upon them yet, put these marvellous finds on your to-do list.
St Luke’s Cares
This is quite the find, but hardly anyone knows about it. St Luke’s Cares is a charity that does great work in the community, helping to raise skills and provide essential support to young people – and they raise money for this with a series of social enterprises, including a fabulous pre-loved furniture store on Dewsbury Road.
You’ll find a few smaller pieces of furniture in the shop itself, but the real fun starts out back, where they have a warehouse filled with over 100 pieces of furniture. They have everything from wardrobes and dressers to beds, sofas and tables, so whatever you need, chances are you’ll find it here, and for a fantastic price too. Look out for their up-cycled pieces for a modern take on vintage chic.
St Luke’s Cares, 246-252 Dewsbury Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS11 6JQ.
Okay, we’ll level with you, this is not a vintage store in the strictest sense – but then, it doesn’t really fit into any particular category. You see, Single Shot is a record store that doubles as a coffee shop, so you can pick up a disc or two, before taking a load off with an expertly made brew (or a beer, if you’re feeling particularly proud of your latest find).
The important thing here though is that the music-obsessed bods at Single Shot have filled their shelves with the best second hand, vintage and rare vinyl they could lay their hands on. So you can sift through a slew of LPs, 12”s and 7”s, spanning rock, pop, metal and hip-hop, safe in the knowledge that each one has been checked by an expert and cleaned on their Pro-Ject vacuum record cleaner.
Single Shot, 30 Central Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6DE.
There’s a reason why this ginormous vintage warehouse is so little known – it’s not always open. In fact, they have a habit of closing up shop while they fill the refill the vast halls with new stock – and even when it’s business as usual, they’re only open for five hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates on opening times.
But don’t let that put you off, because this is one of the biggest vintage treasure troves in Leeds – you could easily kit out a house with their furniture, they’ve filled every crevice with drawers, desks, dining chairs and more. Add homeware, vinyl, books and clothes for the ultimate pre-loved shopping experience.
Retroland, Scotch Park Trading Estate, Forge Lane, Armley, West Yorkshire, LS12 2PY.
