Your golden glow awaits.

One colour doesn’t fit all, so Blushtan has 100 shades of dewy, holiday-worthy tan for you to choose from.

Blushtan is the new tanning sensation taking over Leeds. The American brand has made a trans-Atlantic jump to Headingley and you can try it out for yourself. This is an all-natural product – it’s organic, it’s vegan and it looks like the real thing, so whether you want a subtle winter glow or an all-out post-holiday tan, you won’t be disappointed.

The new Headingley branch has been opened by Natalia Spierings. She’s a dermatologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and a big fan of Blushtan, “As a skin cancer surgeon, I see the damage the sun does to the skin every single day. I had been looking for an amazing spray tan in London for years and had to settle for what was available, then in January 2016, I tried my first Blushtan and I was hooked.” Two years later, she brought the concept home to Leeds.

Blushtan is unique. They mix dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a natural ingredient derived from beetroot, with a special blend of hydraulic acids and natural moisturisers to give you a natural glow that actually hydrates your skin. It comes in three base tones designed to match your natural skin tone and you can choose how dark you want your tan to be.

“The reason why spray tans often look orange is because the base shade of the spray tan contrasts too much with your own skin tone. With Blushtan, that never happens because we choose the right base tan for you,” Spierings explained. “If you’re very fair or have ginger hair, you’d go for a golden base. If you’re still fair, but you can get a bit of a tan in the sun, then you’d be a bronze. And if you’re olive skinned or darker, violet is the one for you!”

If you choose their Original tan, which is the cheapest in their range at £40 for a full body, you’ll have to wait 12 hours to wash it off. But if you’re in a hurry, you can wait just 4-6 hours with their Express tan or 2-4 with their Super Express formula. Whichever you choose, you’ll get the same great result. It takes 24 hours to develop, then you’ve got 5-7 days of sun-kissed skin to look forward to, with the right care. They offer a range of aftercare products to help you eke it out for as long as possible.

The studio itself is bright and modern, with their signature blush tones. There are no neon overheads here, they have two spacious tan rooms fitted with special LEDs, so their technicians can see what they’re doing, but you won’t feel like you’re under the spotlights. Their high powered extraction fans make the whole experience as comfortable as possible and they have a special built-in space to keep your clothes and valuables safe and secure.

Even better, they have everything you could possibly need to prepare for your tan. We’re talking sticky feet to protect your soles, paper underwear so you can protect your modesty (if you want to, that is) and special caps to protect your hair. They have make-up and deodorant removing wipes too, not to mention Vaseline for your lips and velvet soft cream to stop the tan collecting in dry areas like your knees and elbows. They’ve thought of everything. Nose plugs and eye shields come as standard, safety first.

With summer on the way and the ever unpredictable British weather making no promises of sunshine, a spray tan might be just what you need to get your glow back, so why not check it out?
