Decoporium, Leeds

Whether you love classic French design or modern chic, you’re sure to find a new way to jazz up your home at Decoporium.

Wetherby’s newest addition wasn’t the first retail venture for Billie Ager-Mills. For over two years, she’s offered renovated period furniture, new furnishings and interior design at Sillie Billie. Despite the Leeds shops’ success, Ager-Mills decided it was time to take her love of interior design and antique furniture even further by offering something a little bit different with Decoporium.

The new shop opened in Thorp Arch Retail Park in March. Surrounded by a café, playground, garden centre and home furnishing retailers, it seemed like the perfect fit and was a huge upgrade. “Starting the small shop in Wetherby has meant this has been a transition, rather than a completely new enterprise.” Ager-Mills told us. “It’s still a steep learning curve.”

Following the same model as Sillie Billie, you’ll find a range of collectables, shabby chic, antique, vintage and retro furniture at Decoporium, with prices to suit any budget. Ager-Mills explained, ”We not only provide everything you’d expect in an emporium, like antiques and vintage, but we are also focusing on interior design and reinvented designs.”

The new larger unit has certainly let her expand her offerings far beyond what her Sillie Billie customers have come to expect. “We want people to come and be inspired, in a lighter, brighter great place to visit. We’re not the usual dowdy antique centre, we have lovely helpful staff and the atmosphere is really friendly”.

Decoporium is filled with an array of pre-loved furniture, reinvented pieces and homewares that you won’t find in your usual high street stores, with prices ranging from pocket money to £1,000 and up for antique pieces. There’s a lot more than furniture too. You could find a new painting for your collection, baby gift sets or a birthday cards for that special someone, all in one store.

Not only will you find many of Billie’s own designs, but she’s joined by a host of talented local makers too. FromYorkshire themed accessories by the The Little Button Co. to retro prints from Whoopsa Daisy Vintage, there’s something for all tastes. “I had a vision of what I wanted to create here,” Ager-Mills explained, “and I think they’ve surpassed my expectations and created the great place we now have.”

If you find that you’re inspired and are itching to create something of your own, stock up on Autentico Chalk Paint, crackle glaze, stencils, waxes and more at Decoporium to turn that charity shop dud into a shabby chic masterpiece. Haven’t got a clue on how to get started? Their furniture painting workshops will give you a good foundation and turn you in to a DIY pro in no time.

Stay tuned because there are even more workshops in the pipeline. Soon, you’ll be able to expand your skills with upholstery and soft furnishings, colour theory, craft and basic carpentry courses. If you need a little help or advice, just ask Billie, who will be on hand to offer interior design services to help you create a look that’s just as unique as you are.

For those of you who are more interesting in selling than buying, the Leeds antique and furniture shop offers a valuable platform for first timers to showcase their work as well as helping you bring your unique creations out of your home workshop and into a retail shop. And if you’re an established trader, you can take advantage of additional retail space at Decoporium to sell your wares.

In addition to helping local creatives, they’re doing their part to help the wider community. Got some unwanted furniture with more years left in them? You’ll be pleased to know that they are a collection point for The Furniture Donation Network, which takes good condition pieces and gives them to charities across the UK.

Next time you’re looking for something to spruce up your pad, don’t just head straight for the high street. Why not pay Decoporium a visit? Not only will your custom help out a local indie but you’ll be supporting some of Leeds’ most talented makers too.
