New Craven Hall

There’s a new event space and wedding venue in town that’s a little bit different to all the others. Think industrial chic from a couple of experienced Leeds bods…

New Craven Hall isn’t a traditional wedding venue, but it is tapping into an increasingly popular trend, that’s seen brides and grooms looking for something a little bit different. Industrial chic was one of the most popular themes of 2015, seeing a host of old factories and warehouses transformed into luxurious spaces with high ceilings, exposed brickwork and original features – but this will be a first in Leeds.

“The idea came about while we were enjoying a drink in our favourite bar,” Co-owner Ben Corkhill told us. “We felt with my experience running Eiger Studios next door for the past five years, and Jane’s experience having worked in bridal and occasion wear for the past six years, we could combine our two passions to create the perfect unique events space. The idea just snowballed from there and here we are now.”

All the best ideas, it seems, are thought up over a drink – and this is certainly a good ‘un. The space is incredibly versatile, the perfect canvas for you to create your special day. Industrial furnishings are matched with exposed brick walls, metallic beams and cute as a button fairy lights to create a venue worthy of your nuptials.

“New Craven Hall is situated in quite an industrial area of Leeds city centre, we wanted to embrace this while still creating a desirable space for a variety of events,” Ben’s partner, Jane Chapman, told us. “The bar area has an industrial yet cosy feel, and the main room décor is very fresh with lots of creams, which really opens up the space and compliments the bare brick walls and vast metal beams. We like to think the venue is a blank canvas that our clients can put their own personal stamp on.”

And of course, as every good wedding venue does, there’s an outdoor space where your guests can gather. It’s a cute little yard, with vintage style patio furniture and plenty of space for BBQs or even street food vendors, depending on your preferences.

New Craven Hall can be found just to the south of the city centre, in the building next to Eiger Studios that once housed Vox Warehouse – then it was a club of sorts, hosting all manner of gigs, events and festivals, but it’s been empty for quite some time. Hopefully this new iteration will bring the building back to life, welcoming in a host of new guests in the months and years to come.

“We are the only industrial venue in Leeds specifically catering to wedding and corporate hire. We of course expect (and encourage) that the venue will be used for many other things,” Jane told us, in fact, beer festivals were mentioned, and we’re certainly looking forward to attending a few of those at the venue.

“The aesthetic and interior design certainly maintain the elegance of a traditional wedding venue in a modern and versatile way. That’s not to say that Leeds isn’t full of really great, inspiring venues, but we feel our vision was always very clear in what we wanted to achieve with the space. The location is fantastic as well; we’re very close to hotels and the train and bus stations, yet also right next to the M621 for great access from further afield.”
