We’ve seen a fair few openings on Duncan Street in recent months, but this one’s a little bit different, as Q61 Nail & Beauty opens its doors to the public.
Q61 is the brainchild of Helena and Michael Linsky. The pair got married earlier in the year, and Helena decided to get her nails done before they set off on their honeymoon – but it wasn’t as much of a treat as she’d expected. First, she struggled to get a booking, then the service wasn’t up to par, which gave her an idea…
When she got home, she told her new hubby, ‘One day we are going to open up a beauty studio’ – and the idea stuck. In fact, they couldn’t get it out of their heads, even while they were away on holiday in Thailand, and they found themselves scribbling down their ideas on hotel notepads. The rest, as they say, is history – and their new beauty salon is now open.
If first impressions are everything, Q61 are already well on their way to success. It’s clear that a lot of work has gone into making it a cool, modern salon with a warm, welcoming feel.
“Our two floor convenient central city centre location has been professionally designed with the highest standard of custom furniture to ensure we make the customers feel welcome, comfortable and special in every way.” Helena told us, “We have invested a lot in the building to create the right atmosphere, friendly, welcoming and an ‘escape’ from the hectic city centre lifestyle. We want customers to feel at ease.”
The building itself is pretty impressive. It’s 5 Duncan Street, a beautiful, if compact, Grade II Listed building with loads of character – and it’s taken them three months to restore and redecorate it. In terms of location, it’s perfect – if you’re out in the city shopping, you need only nip round the corner from Briggate to get your nails done, have your eyebrows waxed or even indulge in a cheeky massage.
In fact, they’ve got the whole spectrum of beauty services covered at Q61, with waxing, lashes, eyebrow tints, threading, nails, facials and massages, all under one roof.
If your nails are in need of TLC, they do everything from manicures to pedicures, gel colour to bio sculpture – they even do special treatments for pregnant women and kids under 10. And it’s quality all the way at Q61, as Helena was keen to explain, “Our manicures and pedicures use the world’s leading manufacturer of professional hand, foot and nail care products, OPI, while always offering BioSculpture services for additional choice.”
The same applies to their other services too. They’ve partnered with Australian Body Care for their waxing services, Hollywood Lashes for their lash treatments, and Dermalogica for their facials, all the while implementing a strict hiring policy to ensure you have a lovely experience, every time.
It’s all driven by that original experience and the idea that every treatment, whether a luxury or a necessity, should be a treat. “As a person who feels getting beauty or hair treatments is a chore, I was conscious that I wanted to create a journey and really make the customer feel special.” Helena explained, “Q61 is different, as I really feel our central focus has always been giving the customer an experience.”
And that, it seems is exactly what they’ve done. From the aesthetics to the treatments themselves, and even the prices, they seem to have to pulled it off. But of course, don’t take our word for it – try it yourself and let us know what you think.
