If you have one foot stuck in the past, you need to head to Left Bank Leeds for a spot of swapping and shopping at The Vintage Social.
Leeds is something of a mecca for retro lovers, what with all the vintage shops and fairs that can be found in town, so it should come as no surprise that another must-try event has just popped up. The Vintage Social will take place in Left Bank Leeds, a stunning former church that now hosts a slew of community events.
So what can you expect from this one? Well, The Vintage Social isn’t specialist by any means, nor is it date specific, so expect to see purse-friendly threads from any and every era. The rails will be filled with one-off finds, so you’re sure to find something unique – and it’s not just vintage, they’ll have stalls from the likes of London designer Hannah Gower.
You can bring along your own old school pieces, you know, the ones that are getting dusty in the back of your wardrobe, to swap for something you’ll wear again and again. It’s all part of their clothes swap – and you’re encouraged to get involved.
You’ll find more than just pre-loved clothes at The Vintage Social though. There will be vintage records, books and all kinds of crafty loveliness for you to discover, with Leeds College of Art graduate, Jenna Coulthard’s stunning creations on show.
If you’ve got the kids in tow, the folk behind Modes of Expression will teach your mini designers to make jewellery from clay and whatever they can find in the garden out front, for free – and you can all explore the art exhibition together afterwards.
It’s worth sticking around post-shopping too. Left Bank’s bar will be open and they’ll have beer courtesy of Tall Boys. You’ll also find some of Leeds’ finest on-hand to feed you up, with Sela Bar’s famed pizza, fresh sarnies from Sebby’s Deli and vegan cakes from That Old Chestnut. And to turn it into a real party, DJs from IAM Collective and Heavy Soul will be spinning the decks all day.
The Vintage Social takes place from 12pm-7pm on Saturday 22nd August 2015 at Left Bank Leeds. £1 entry fee.
