It may be part of the University of Leeds, but The Edge is a state of the art gym that’s open to everyone – and with so much to offer, you’d be mad to overlook it.
There’s no shortage of gyms in the city centre, but few compare to The Edge. It has an incredible array of equipment and facilities that go way beyond the norm, and a city centre location that makes working out easy – but most people think it’s just for students. The good news is, it’s not, and that means you can make the most of all this…
Choose from 250 pieces of equipment in the Fitness Suite
The gym is the most obvious place to start. It has everything you could want – treadmills, cycles, cross trainers, free weights and loads more besides, but it’s the scale that will surprise you. There are 250 pieces of equipment in total, making this one of the biggest university gyms in the country – which means you can get a more rounded workout, with more equipment to choose from than anywhere else.
Try one of over 160 exercise classes
As well as the gym, you can also join any of the 160 exercise classes they offer during term time – and there’s no extra cost, it’s included in your membership. They do everything from Pilates and Yoga to Body Pump, Body Attack and Zumba, as well as a range of pool based classes such as Aqua or Swimfit, so there’s something for absolutely everyone.
Take advantage of the state of the art pool
The Edge has an eight lane, 25 metre pool for you to take advantage of – and this is no average pool. It has a state of the art UV system which means they use half as many chemicals as normal pools, as well as a moveable floor that allows them to adjust the depth of the water for swimming lessons, aqua aerobics and paddling sessions. In fact, it’s so good, that Triathlon legends, the Brownlee Brothers, train here with their Leeds Triathlon squad.
Enjoy spa-style luxury
Want to turn your gym visit into more of a spa experience? No problem. They have a sauna and steam room, perfect for easing away the tensions of the day, as well as luxurious single sex and family changing rooms with all the mod cons. We’re talking underfloor heating and vanity areas with sockets for straighteners and hairdryers available to use.
Find new and exciting ways to get fit
This is where things get really interesting, because as well as the pool and the gym, The Edge also has a host of other activities that you can make the most of. You can take on the climbing wall, have a game of squash or badminton and even learn martial arts. Plus, if you’ve got a team, they’ve got an indoor sports hall perfect for football, netball and basketball.
Get expert help to reach your fitness goals
Whether you want to lose inches, build up your strength or recover from an injury, The Edge has a personal trainer to help you do it. Every member of their team specialises in a particular area, giving you a choice of friendly, professional instructors to help you reach your fitness goals, whatever they may be.
Make going to the gym easy
It’s all too easy to put off your gym visits, especially if you’re going somewhere out of the way – luckily, The Edge is just 2 minutes from millennium square, making it really easy to nip in before or after work. You’ll find it on Willow Terrace, just behind Leeds General Infirmary, so even lunch break workouts are totally doable.
Only £49 per month for public members
When it comes to membership, you have a few options. The Edge Premium Membership gives you unlimited access to the fitness suite, swimming pool and classes from 6:30am to 10:30pm, but if you want to reduce the cost, you can choose Extra or Club Membership, which will give you access to all the same facilities but only at selected times. It’s not the cheapest gym in the city, and nor would you expect it to be, because you won’t find anywhere in Leeds that’s better equipped to meet your fitness needs.
