Here’s a round up of everything you need to see at Light Night 2025.

Travel into Leeds on the PR1 service from Elland Road and your evening will begin before you even board the bus. The interactive Rock NeON installation invites passengers to unleash their inner rockstars – step on stage, strike a pose and let the soundtrack and the lights transform you into a rock god. Don’t forget to tag @lightnightleeds with your best moves.

Once you’re in the city centre, head to Wellington Place, which is being transformed into a family-friendly zone for this year’s event. From a self-choreographed dancing fountain to an interactive 3D cube illuminated by hundreds of LED lights, there are loads of ways to get involved. The legendary silent disco is back for another year, and keep an eye out for a pair of disco moths, sent down from the moon to gather up fun, silliness and pride!

Over at the Station Zone you’ll find The Queens Hotel dressed to the nines. German artist Dirk Rauscher is adapting and extending his animated graphic novel, One Second Lovestory, into a show-stopping projection, displayed onto the iconic hotel. Celebrating 200 years of the modern railway, the story follows two people whose eyes meet across a packed station. The Queens always pulls out all the stops for their installation, and this year is no different.

In Millennium Square, the Civic Hall will shine with an installation made up of a mysterious hot air balloon and fantastical imagery from books in the British Library’s collection. Nearby on the Headrow you’ll see the return of the inflatable nocturnal animals, while at the SOYO Zone Blood Moon is an inflatable red moon, set to transform the station into a glowing, otherworldly space. Head back to Boar Lane from there to catch a late bus home.

Heading in from south-east of Leeds? Head to Stourton for the PR3 service, which whizzes you into the city centre in under 15 minutes. But first there’s an exclusive installation to check out at the site. The Stars Come Out at Night is a mesmerising sculpture which slowly rotates, scattering constellations across the ground as an atmospheric soundtrack plays. And keep an eye out for Arlo the Owl, Leeds City Council’s mascot, who’ll be making appearances through the evening!

The PR3 takes you to Neville Street, where it’s just a quick stroll to Sovereign Square to catch Molecular Clouds – an interactive projection exploring themes of climate change. Cross the river to the South Bank, making a pitstop at The Tetley, where you’ll find the Little Fox charity craft market, tempting street food and a monumental light show drawing in the crowds from 6pm onwards. Bird Passing By is a 32-metre-long sculpture capturing the complete movements of a bird in flight – it’s sure to be one of the event’s highlights.

Nearby at Leeds Dock, the premier of Lumora is bound to impress. Inspired by the complex and intense energy streams from across the universe, the artwork combines original electronic music with hazy, pulsating lights for a transcendent experience. Don’t miss out on lively goings-on on Briggate, where you’ll find another hub of activity and plenty of street performers. Catch the Park and Ride back from Lower Briggate for a smooth journey home and one last look at the stars.
