If you’re up for it, you can prove your mettle on the most vertigo-inducing, adrenaline-pumping obstacles the region has to offer. Or, if you have little ones in tow, you can wear everyone out for a super-early bed time with a fantastic family-friendly day out in an incredible woodland canopy.

Feeling brave? Temple Newsam has an adventure centre you won’t want to miss. Think tree-to-tree crossings suspended 15 metres above the ground and a 13-metre plummet that’s guaranteed to put your stomach in your mouth. A series of zips will whizz you from A to B, as you hop, skip and jump your way to their massive 60-metre wire – take in the scenery or close your eyes and scream your heart out, we won’t judge.

Believe it or not, 2,000 square metres of woodlands await at Lightwater Valley and they hold a delightful secret – one of Yorkshire’s best tree top adventure parks. This 12-metre-high woodland canopy has a labyrinth of paths and tunnels that lead to a bouncy, springy hall of adventure. It’s totally family-friendly, with all the protection of high net walls and all the squeal-worthy adventure of zip wires and giant trampolines.

Treetop Trails, Lightwater Valley, Water Lane, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG3 3HT. Entry is included in the price of admission, which starts from £18 for anyone aged 4 years+, or you can book tickets for the trails only for £7.50. You need to pre-book tickets.

Raven Tree Top Adventure

Open on weekends and school holidays, Raven Tree Top Adventure offers an adrenaline-pumping day out for families across the region. It’s a circular route around the treetops, with 29 platforms for you to scale and scamper across. Hop from board-to-board on their woodland walkways, test your balance on their neon tightropes and whizz with wild abandon down their super-fast zip lines – all manner of adventures await here!

Go Ape Dalby Forest

With acre-upon-acre of forest stretched out before you and a vertigo-inducing 16.5 metre drop below you, Go Ape Dalby Forest is a must for any adrenaline seeker. This Yorkshire tree top adventure park will pit you against Tarzan swings, tightrope crossings and a 50-metre valley-to-valley zipwire that promises incredible views as you whizz at break-neck speed towards the earth. This is not for the fainthearted!

Live for Today High Ropes

Nestled in the grounds of Ripley Castle, among the trees of their ancient forests, you’ll find Live for Today’s treetop adventure. Here, among the greenery, you can take on a series of physically and mentally challenging obstacles. Jump, climb and swing your way among the treetops, as you tackle everything from zip wires to crate stacks, ladders and an epic 35-foot leap of faith. There’s a minimum group size of four people here, so bring your friends.
