Introducing the lovely Leeds indie delighting shoppers with its collection of stunning Nordic-inspired homewares.
There’s nothing quite like shopping indie. Meeting the close-knit team behind the brand, discovering a unique piece, supporting a small business – the list goes on. North Home is an independent store in Leeds dedicated to selling timeless, high-quality homeware. From glassware and crockery to tables and chairs, each and every piece has been hand-picked by co-owner Kamil Wangin. We caught up with the team to uncover the story behind their brand.
It all started with a coffee shop

You might recognise North Home – the brand began its life as a few shelves in Scandinavian cafe Fettle, which was the previous venture of Kamil and his co-owner Simon Hawkins. When their customers kept asking where they were getting their crockery from, it sparked an idea in Kamil to open a store. He felt there was a real gap in the market for a unique homeware store – a one-stop shop where you could find unique plates, pottery, candles and more.
During the pandemic the pair saw a surge in interest because Fettle was one of the few places you could actually shop for gifts, as they were operating as a coffee shop. They decided to set up an online shop on the back of this and saw a lot of interest. After a successful pop-up in Victoria Gate led to an extended 14-month stint, they eventually opened their flagship store on Vicar Lane in 2022. Today their focus is championing slow living, simplicity and authenticity.
A big company run by small people

Despite North Home’s sleek online presence, they’re actually a small but mighty team. Simon and Kamil work on the ground in the shop, all while sourcing products, collaborating with designers and running the online store. The pair cherish building lasting relationships with their customers and love to offer guidance and share their expertise, as do their three lovely team members who share their passions and perfectly fit the North Home ethos.
While the pair co-own North Home, the vision behind the brand comes directly from Kamil. It’s his impeccable taste and deep-rooted passion for Nordic aesthetics that’s helped to shape the collection, which reflects his love for nature and classic Nordic interior. What’s more, each and every item is hand-picked and he knows all of them inside out. Visit the store and Kamil will be more than happy to chat through the story behind each piece.
