Martin House Children's Hospice provides family-led, free of charge hospice care for children and young people with life-shortening conditions across West, North and East Yorkshire.

When you donate to Martin House, you’re not just giving a gift – you’re giving families precious moments that they’ll treasure forever.

Since 1987, Christmas at Martin House Children’s Hospice has been filled with love, laughter, expert care and cherished memories, even in the hardest of times.

This year marks an especially important chapter, as the charity celebrates its first Christmas in its brand new children’s wing. Here are three ways Martin House is making a difference this Christmas – and how your support can help.

They’re providing families with joyful new experiences

At Martin House, Christmas is about togetherness, joy and helping families feel like families again – even when life is uncertain.

Every Christmas season, families supported by Martin House are invited to come together to celebrate, creating moments of warmth, laughter and normality. From festive activities and special visits from Santa to time spent simply being together, these experiences offer comfort, joy and lasting memories when they’re needed most. As shown in Martin House’s Christmas campaign video, these moments are about love, connection and making the most of every second.

This year marks Martin House’s first Christmas in the new children’s wing, which opened in April 2025. The new woodland-themed space features nine spacious ensuite bedrooms, each with piped oxygen and integrated hoists, alongside seven new parents’ bedrooms and two new family rooms – giving families space to stay together during the most important time of year.

This state-of-the-art wing is the perfect place for families to come together and make precious memories while receiving vital, round-the-clock care. For nearly 40 years, supporters have helped fill Martin House with comfort, love and laughter, and this Christmas is no different. From funding the special touches that make the party magical, to providing a home-cooked Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, every donation truly makes a difference.

For some families, Christmas carries deep sadness alongside memories of joy. Martin House continues to support families long after the loss of a child, offering dedicated bereavement care, remembrance events and ongoing emotional support.

Ameeliah was supported by Martin House throughout her life and attended many Christmas celebrations at the hospice. She died in 2023, aged 17. Her mum Lucy described the Christmas parties as treasured memories her family will always hold close.
