Once the sun goes down, Leeds comes alive, so get ready for some truly sensational nights out in the city.

Leeds has a real buzz about it at night. Bars and clubs come to life and countless unmissable experiences beckon. We’re talking pub crawls, beer pong and wild dancing until the sun comes up. So what are you waiting for? Seize the night and plan your next epic adventure into the city’s legendary nightlife scene.

Have a hole lotta fun with crazy golf

This is not your dad’s golf club. It’s not just the absence of Pringle knitwear – the three courses at this neon-lit den in are truly eccentric and absolutely unmissable. Grab a bunch of mates, order a round of cocktails (the Pink Flamingo combines Tequila Rose with Malibu, strawberry, pineapple and lime sherbet) and start swinging.

Bozo, Pablo and Gary – that’s the courses, not your friends – all have their own theme, while a soundtrack of banging tunes gives your game strong ‘Ryder Cup on acid’ vibes.

Dive underground at a secret jazz bar

Okay, maybe ‘secret’ is pushing it for The Domino Club these days, but this is definitely one of the coolest places to hang out in Leeds – and you’ll still need to search for it if you haven’t been before.

Head through the door at the back of Lord’s Barbering, descend the stairs and you’ll be in one of the best places to catch a jazz or funk show in the city. The dancefloor beckons, as do the snug leather booths and a cocktail list with serious chops. It’s like the very best of New York, but with an ‘LS’ postcode.

Go bonkers at the bingo

It turns out bingo can be both brilliant and barmy. Bongo’s Bingo has breathed new life into this old classic by turning it into a bonkers night out that’s a million miles from the number-dobbing and meat raffles of classic bingo.

You’ll find a raucous atmosphere from the beginning, with dancing interludes, ridiculous prizes, confetti cannons blasting into the air and fancy dress galore. And, yes, you will actually be playing bingo. Will you take home a cardboard cut-out of a cheesy star, a stuffed toy or a Henry Hoover?

Slide into some shuffleboard action

Electric Shuffle is the ultimate gaming venue that takes shuffleboard to the next level. Rather than totting up scores, their shuffleboards do all the hard work for you, so you can focus on sliding, supping and showing your mates who’s boss.

While you get your game face on, press the push-for-service button or glide on down to the bar and choose from a selection of sharing cocktails, craft beers and signature slushies. Why not grab a bite from the menu too? Small plates and platters galore!

Thursdays to Sundays are the main events, with cabarets, showgirls, fabulous hosts, drinks specials and music that ranges from camp classics to vintage pop. If you’re a bingo fan, you’ll be glad to hear there’s a game on every weekday, with stacks of fun and big cash prizes up for grabs.

White Cloth Hall is one of the city’s top dining destinations – an all-day drink and food spot brought to us by the people behind Whitelock’s and more. It’s in a famous building that has been sensitively opened out, and is like a TARDIS once you get inside.

You can head left to the bar – within sight of the pizza oven – right to the wine bar, or head through to the split-level interior. Grab a beer, a cocktail or some wine and order your pick of food via the QR code on your table. There’s everything from oysters to steaks and Malaysian grub.

Scoff in your seat at the movies

Sofas with cushions on them at the Everyman Cinema

Netflix is all well and good, but nothing beats seeing a film on the big screen. Actually, something does – seeing a film on the big screen while someone brings you pizza and drinks. Everyman was the first Leeds cinema to deliver truly cosy sofa seating, and that, combined with fab food, has been putting bums on seats ever since.

Whether it’s a first run of the latest blockbuster or the revival of an arthouse classic, you can order up burgers, pizzas or ice cream sundaes straight to your seat.

Beat the clock at an escape room

Want a great night out with your mates? Escape Hunt has an evening of puzzling fun for you. It has five different themes for you to choose from, ranging from the pirate peril of Blackbeard’s Treasure through to Excalibur, an escape game set in the mythical world of King Arthur.

You can do it in teams of two to six – the more the merrier as it’s cheaper once you get to four players – and you’ll work together to beat the all the codes and puzzles to escape the room in 60 minutes. Teamwork is dreamwork.

Quaff crazy cocktails at Cuckoo

Hazelnut Martini on the bar at Cuckoo

Cuckoo is a Call Lane classic, known for its absolutely bonkers decor – think a secret garden, a Narnia wardrobe and a perfectly over-the-top fairground bar – and lush cocktails. Sip on a Rhubarb Bramble or order up a round of shooters while soaking up the unhinged vibe.

There are lots of bar games to indulge in, from giant Jenga to beer pong, and a brilliant bonus if you’re on a budget is that you’ll get a hand-crafted 6-inch pizza for free if you order a drink before 9pm.

Cuckoo, 37 Call Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 7BT.

Battle your buddies at classic pub games

Pool tables at Roxy Ball Room Merrion Street

Graffiti’d walls, neon lighting and booze galore – what better setting could there be for an epic pub game battle royale? Roxy Ball Room gives you the best of all worlds, with beer pong, table tennis, shuffleboard, duck pin bowling, pool, private karaoke rooms and arcade machines.

The universal rule of ‘loser buys the drinks’ applies, although losing at beer pong is actually winning, as you get to drink. Go until the early hours on the weekend, by which time you’ll have stopped keeping score.

Binge on burgers & craft beer

This glorious old 1930s building now houses Belgrave Music Hall – one of the most vibrant nights out in all of Leeds. There’s something on every night, whether it’s a gig upstairs, drinks on the rooftop or just pulling up for a pint in the ground floor’s main bar.

Expect the cream of the world’s craft beers on tap, along with a well-stocked spirits range and cocktails. The food is more than a match for it – grab pizza by the slice from Dough Boys or a juicy burger and the sensational Session Fries from Patty’s.

Belgrave Music Hall, 1-1A Cross Belgrave Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 8JP.

Let the gaming commence

A legendary Leeds location underwent a makeover and reemerged as NQ64 Arcade Bar, a brilliant addition to the Leeds night out list. It’s a game bar decked out in a riot of neon and, while it doesn’t have the huge range of Arcade Club, it does something very different, with a much more adult vibe.

Take your mates, grab some drinks and get into classics like Mortal Kombat, Altered Beast or older gems like Space Invaders. Colourful cocktails will fuel your night, and there are deals to be had including student discount and gaming & drinks combos to help you level up your time here. Game on!

NQ 64, 11 Merrion Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6PG.

Oporto has been a Call Lane go-to for more than 20 years. A place where you’re guaranteed a good drink, a good time and a good feeling. There’s craft ale both in the fridge and on tap, refreshing lagers and the kind of comprehensive liquor shelf that tells you you’re in good hands.

But the soundtrack matters here too – you might be entertained by a DJ set or join them for frequent free live music nights, curated by Dead Young records along with a whole host of their talented friends.

Bag a bullseye at Flight Club

People celebrating after a win at Flight Club in Leeds

You can try your hand at another classic pub game dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century at Flight Club. This is made for group giggles, with the emphasis very much on ‘social darts’.

That means electronic scoring, so you don’t have to do quick maths, loads of mini-games and three ‘oches’ to stand at when you throw, which levels up the playing field. Chance your arm while supping on classic cocktails and diving into brilliant sharing platters and pizzas.

Flight Club, Sovereign House, 1-2 South Parade, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5QL.

Drink on the rooftop at Headrow House

The Kennedy Meadows rooftop at Headrow House

Just when you think you’ve reached the top of Headrow House, after you’ve stepped out of the Redondo Beach bar on to the terrace, you realise you’re not there yet. If you really want to reach the top, there’s another set of steps to ascend to ‘Kennedy Meadows’.

Up there, you’ll find covered huts, exposed benches and padded seats, while tunes waft up from local DJs. Work your way through the short cocktail list – the Redondo Kiss is a great place to start – or sample a pint of unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell.

Try one of the city’s top interactive game bar

El Gato Negro changed into The Black Cat Club and, while the name itself might be similar, the place itself has undergone a much bigger transformation. It’s adios to tapas and hola to a social gaming bar with food, drinks and loads of screens for watching live sports on.

Game-wise, it’s all about interactive darts and shuffleboard – truly, Park Row is the home of such things – in a venue that has been spruced up with music memorabilia. The menu covers all the night-out staples, from signature cocktails through to small plates, pizzettas and smash burgers. It’s a place tailor-made for groups.

Get the party started at Popworld

The name and the vibrant colours in the window don’t lie – this is the premier pop picker’s party in Leeds. Inside you’ll be greeted by seats under giant day-glo lips and a nonstop soundtrack of cheesy classic pop. You come here to drink and dance – you come here for a good time.

Saturday’s Candy Pop party has half-price drinks before 7pm, while colourful cocktails and the legendary Gumball Sharers are must-haves as you lose it to Peter Andre, Steps and countless sing-along, arms-in-the-air gems. Book a booth and you get free sweets!

Popworld, 43 Cookridge Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 3AW.

Escape to the Tiki Hideaway for a tropical paradise that feels like it’s a world away from Leeds. Tucked away on the top floor of Call Lane Social, this Polynesian-inspired bar is decorated with bamboo walls, surfboards and Aloha shirts.

Love a Piña Colada? Theirs comes frozen in slushie form, with Havana Club 3 Year Rum. Fancy an Amputated Zombie? Get a champion’s flower garland placed around your neck as you watch their mixologists set your drink alight.

Sing your heart out at karaoke

A karaoke room at Hello Karaoke, House of Fu

You might know House of Fu as a cool ramen restaurant on The Headrow, but did you know the first floor is kitted out with five karaoke booths? You’ll have everything you need for an all-singing, all-dancing party – a state of the art sound system, a huge selection of music on offer and a disco ball to light up the room.

Keep the drinks flowing and head to the funky music lounge where you’ll find a DJ spinning records while you’re free to order beers, sake, wines and those ever-popular frozen cocktails.

House of Fu, 15-19 The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6PU.

Go below stairs

You’ll find Below Stairs… below stairs. An easy-to-miss yet oh-so-trendy cocktail bar located just off South Parade, venture down to this basement haunt with sprawling herringbone floors, dark oak finishings and metro touches. Their cocktail selection isn’t to be sniffed at, either – in fact, it’s what they do best.

Alongside a whole menu dedicated to classics, they also like to mix things up. Take their ‘Smell After Rain’ for example, where Niche Carrot Vodka is mixed with Niche Bentonite Clay Spirit and finished with bergamot, pine and salts.

Below Stairs, 12 South Parade, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5QS.

Get set to carouse at Carousel

When Carousel took over the old Tiger Tiger site, they threw £2 million at the refurb – and it really shows! It’s bright, it’s loud and it’s a whole lotta fun. Not one for the wallflowers, Carousel is in your face with karaoke, interactive darts, shuffleboard, beer pong and arcade games from basketball to dancing machines.

Cocktails come bright and big – they might not be serious mixology contenders, but they’ll look great on your Instagram – while ‘mates plates’ are the perfect sharers. We’re talking pizzas, chicken tenders, loaded fries and more to keep you going on your big night out in Leeds.

Carousel, 117 Albion Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 8DY.
