The Green Yard is a hidden gem nestled in the courtyard behind HEART. It’s a fantastic plant shop packed into a little shed, with greenery all but spilling out the door. They have easy-to-care-for house plants, like yuccas, pothos and snake plants, alongside unusual gems like the funky mistletoe cacti. There’s a selection of outdoor plants and they also sell peat-free potting compost for your houseplants. Keep your eyes peeled for vegetable plants and plant care guides.

Tandem

A cafe, gallery and gift shop rolled into one, Tandem also has a wonderful array of house plants. Small succulents? Check. Easy-to-care-for cacti? Check. Large, leafy greenery? Check and double check. From monsteras to string of pearls, they have ‘em all. You can even pick up rustic-chic pots to jazz things up – there are ceramic, metal and wicker ones alongside macrame and wire hangers. The best part? You can enjoy a hot cuppa from the cafe as you browse.

The Garden Nurseries
The Garden Nursery is Crag House Farm’s on-site plant shop and it’s one of the biggest and best in Leeds. They have a huge greenhouse full of vibrant, thriving indoor plants. You’ll be spoilt for choice, with beautiful orchids, massive aloe vera and colourful succulents to pick from. They have plenty of pots, special soils and plant food to help keep your greenery happy and healthy too. The manager, John, is RHS-qualified and always happy to share his plant-care wisdom.

Did you know that Kirkgate Market is home to one of the best plant shops in Leeds? M & D Flowers is near the Vicar Lane entrance and boasts an unrivalled range of plants and bouquets. There’s everything from teeny tiny cacti to 4-foot tall dracaena plants, all at seriously affordable prices. Look out for rare picks like jumping dolphins and ruby necklaces in their ever-changing collection. You’ll find plenty of pots here, including macrame hangers, perfect for trailing plants.

A visit to The Plant Point is like stepping into a jungle right in the heart of Leeds (or Ilkley). The shop is filled with lush, green leaves that sprawl over every surface and fill every corner. They specialise in unique indoor plants. We’re talking pastel-pink string of hearts, bright orange crotons and delicate, deep-green asparagus ferns. You can pick up hand-crafted pots to house your new plants in, but if you need advice on what to get or to save a beloved, just ask!

Otley Garden Centre
Formerly Stephen H Smith’s, Otley Garden Centre is home to everything you need to spruce up your home and garden, as well as shops and cafes – it’s a day out in itself. Inside, 4-foot parlour palms are nestled next to snake plants, while lengthy vines trail off counters. You can even add a pop of colour indoors with their potted flowers. They’ve got a whole room dedicated to pots, while outside, you’ll find compost, shrubs, flowers and even fencing for all your garden needs.

Poppy’s Potting Shed
Poppy’s Potting Shed is a lovely little plant shop that specialises in eye-catching indoor plants that’ll bring you all kinds of joy. Think silver-striped prayer plants, rosy-red caladiums and rare lilac tradescantias you’ll struggle to find anywhere else in Leeds, alongside trailing greenery with a full shelf of ivy and strings of hearts. Plant-care pro? There’s a selection of young plants you can take home to nurture into full-grown beauties. Look out for fun and fizz-filled workshops too!

The Arium
It’s the biggest plant nursery in Leeds and has won RHS Flower Show Gold awards, so The Arium should be near the top of your list when looking for where to buy plants in Leeds. They sell a wide range of plants, with stock changing with the seasons. But that’s not all. They sell plant and garden accessories, like tools and pots, as well as birdhouses and feeders. When you’re done, you can then browse their extensive gift and homewares shop, followed by a rest in the cafe.

The Westgate archway in Otley reveals a wonderful plant nursery – Courtyard Planters, nestled in the historic cobbled stableyards of the former Half Moon Inn. This is greenfingered heaven, with everything from shrubs to bedding plants, hanging baskets to seed potatoes available to buy. Looking to increase your plant knowledge? They run a range of workshops all year round, whether it’s the basics or something a little more refined, like flower arranging.

The Perfumed Garden
In the heart of Chapel Allerton, The Perfumed Garden has everything you need to make your home a plant-filled paradise and has done so since it opened in 1997. Alongside fresh bouquets and dried flowers, you’ll find all manner of potted perfection. Succulents sit next to cacti, flowering plants next to trailing plants – just take your pick. There’s all manner of accessories too, so if you need fresh pots or hangers, pop in and treat yourself.
