Giggling Squid may be the newest addition to the Leeds Thai food scene – opening on Monday 7th April 2025 in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Park Row – but this establishment has been serving hungry patrons for over two decades now.
Delivering ‘Thai food with personality’, their restaurants are renowned for being absolutely stunning. Expect fabulous flower-filled displays and Instagrammable interiors. But it’s the tasty Thai tapas menu that takes centre stage.
Tuck into Thai classics for starters, from pork dumplings to chicken satay, spring rolls to Hawker-style pork skewers. For mains, take your pick from fragrant curries, aromatic stir fries and truly superb signature specials – we love the drunken ribs which come coated in a sumptuous red curry sauce.

Chaophraya

You heard it from us – Chaophraya is one of the best Thai restaurants in Leeds. Owner Kim Kaewkraikhot grew up in the rural Thai village of Khiri Mat – she opened the doors to Chaophraya in 2004, bringing with her an authentic taste of Thailand.
The restaurant is adorned with ornamental sculptures and flashes of gold for a real luxurious feel, and the extensive menu will get your head spinning.
If you’re unsure of where to start, Kim’s won awards for her Pad Thai recipe, but you’ll also find the usual suspects like beef panang and chicken with black pepper sauce all in order. If you want to rock the boat a little, try their signature Thai tacos, filled with your choice of vegetables or chicken.

Cheap and cheerful, Thai Aroy Dee does exactly what it says on the tin. You’ll find them on Vicar Lane, where their stripped-back and simple decor takes a back seat to make way for their delicious food offering.
Starters come in the form of Thai fish cakes, crispy fried wonton and pak tod, and mains range from curries and salads to fried rice and noodles – the pad kee mao is a real treat, where drunken stir-fried noodles are loaded with chicken, basil, fresh chillis and tasty vegetables.
Pop down on a weekday for lunch and you can even take advantage of an happy hour deal, where you can grab a main course and a side dish for a sweet, sweet £10.95

Khao Gaeng Thai

Khao Gaeng Thai may be one of the lesser-known Thai restaurants in Leeds city centre, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a solid lunch option. Walk into Kirkgate Market and follow your nose and you’ll stumble upon this unassuming stall, slinging delicious food options by the bucketload.
Grab your chopsticks and tuck into curry, rice, noodle boxes and more, each one packed with punchy flavours and a medley of vegetables.
If you’re looking for something warm and hearty, the tom yum soup is sure to do the trick, loaded with lemongrass, mushroom and your choice of protein. Thirsty? Grab a bubble tea – we recommend the brown sugar milk.

A trip to Phranakhon calls for some of the most delicious Thai tapas in Leeds. This dimly-lit, subterranean eatery has a carefully curated rustic-meets-secret-garden vibe, with exposed brick walls and vines hanging from the ceiling.
Take a seat in one of their many nooks and crannies and get ready to dive into this menu of dreams. You can eat your way through Thailand with delightful small plates ranging from garlic jumbo prawns and crispy pork belly to chilli-fried aubergine and crunchy broccoli with soy and garlic.
The atmosphere’s cosy, the service is attentive and each visit promises a taste of something new. What more could you ask for?

Olive & Thai is a must for Thai food lovers in Leeds and it’s just a little off the beaten path. You’ll find this cosy eatery in Queens Arcade, with a light and airy upstairs dining room ready made exploring a menu designed to bring the passion of Thai cuisine to life.
It really doesn’t disappoint, kicking off with a medley of tongue-treating starters like veggie spring rolls, summer rolls and spicy Thai salad.
For your main, there’s all the classics, from massaman to pad kra pow, but our favourite has to be the Chiang Mai curry noodles, with slow-cooked chicken.

The stylish Rambuttri restaurant is bought to Leeds by the same people behind Phranakhon, so you know you’re in for something special. The interiors set the ambiance perfectly, with dramatic light fitting cascades, Thai accents and welcoming booths.
But it’s the food that really shines here. Small plates feature everything from gyozas to Thai-style Southern fried chicken and spicy salad, so you can fill the table with an array of vibrant, fragrant delights.
Meanwhile, mains feature all the favourites, from curries to fried rice and noodle dishes, delivered with real flare. Plus, with happy hour deals and a lunch offer from £8.95, it’s a real gem worth checking out.

With locations dotted around the country, there’s no doubt that a trip to Rosa’s Thai promises some of the tastiest Thai food in Leeds.
Their Trinity dwelling has a light, open and airy feel, with simple wooden furnishings, pops of colour and low hanging lighting – but what does the menu have in store? Crispy veggie spring rolls and popcorn shrimp are just a taste of the starters, leading you onto main course delights in the form of noodles, curries and more.
The cashew stir-fry is a perfect blend of Rosa’s special soy sauce, cashew nuts, spring onion and mushrooms, with your choice of protein to top it all off. Whatever you plump for, make sure you grab a side of the fresh summer rolls.

Headingley’s very own Jino’s Thai Cafe is perfect for all occasions. A stylish restaurant that’s all high ceilings, light woodwork and lush greenery, they’ve got all the Thai classics we’ve come to know and love.
Pop down from Tuesday to Sunday to put their cracking Curry Club deal to use, serving up any curry, rice and drink for just £15.95. Curries come in the form of gaeng massaman, panaeng, pla shu shi and so much more, with drinks covering Singha beer, ciders and soft drnk.
If that wasn’t enough, they even operate a BYOB policy without a corkage charge, so come armed with your Singha beers!

As the name would suggest, My Thai cook up some of the best Thai food in Leeds. Their two charming and cosy restaurants will get you feeling like you’ve just stepped into a Bangkok cafe, and that’s before you’ve sampled the food.
They serve a tempting menu of curry, rice and noodles, but we’re certainly partial to their massaman curry. With onions, peanuts and potatoes in a creamy tamarind sauce, it’s spicy, salty, sour and sweet in all the right places.
If you’re looking to treat your tastebuds to a change, though, the nuer yang is sure to do just that – think char-grilled sirloin, served with a side of vegetables and a pot of jaew dipping sauce.

Thai Sun

Once a Stanningley pub, now a great spot to find delicious Thai food in Leeds, Thai Sun is a perfectly-authentic, family-run restaurant. Chandeliers, plush velvet chairs and glossy tiled floors, you’ll find it all here, making every trip feel like a special occasion.
So, what will be it be? The tom yum soup, heady with lemongrass and Thai herbs? Or perhaps the jungle curry, packed with all the authentic flavours that are local to Thailand?
If you want to spice things up, the head chef has even managed to squeeze a replica of the Mount Etna eruption onto the menu, complete with your choice of beef, chicken or prawns and a Thai lava sauce – it has to be seen to be believed.

Sitting on the outskirts of Leeds city centre, Sri Non Thai Street Food is sure to catch your eye if you happen to be walking past.
It’s owned by Nona and Sri Klaisamniang, who spent 20 years working in Thai eateries across Leeds before opening their very own, so you just know the food’s going to be delicious. You’ll find all the staples, from wonton soups to red curries, as well as a whole menu of chef specials.
This is where you’ll find delights like Hainanese chicken with spicy soy sauce, pineapple fried rice and roasted red pork with a tangy Thai BBQ sauce. Try one dish, try two, but there’s no doubt that you’ll want to keep coming back for more.

Out in Rawdon, Chinese and Thai restaurant Sweet Basil Valley is definitely worth leaving Leeds city centre for. From the outside it may appear unremarkable, but step inside and you’ll be greeted by cherry blossom trees, lacquered wood and flattering lighting.
But what’s on the menu? You won’t be able to resist ordering an appetiser, but will it be spicy fishcakes, baked spare ribs or steamed scallops? Mains will have you choosing between everything from Thai omelettes and red curries to chow mein and roast duck.

Since Zaap Thai burst onto the Leeds street food scene in all their technicolour glory, they’ve set the bar high for delicious Thai food.
With restaurants in both Headingley and the city centre, you’re never too far away from an authentic taste of Bangkok, complete with tuk-tuks, neon signs and Asian trinkets. There are over 80 dishes to choose from, and a sweet and savoury crispy chicken & mango bao bun is a great way to kick things off.
For mains, there are oodles of noodles, whole roasted ducks and an entire plant-based menu to get acquainted with, but you can’t go wrong with the gaeng massaman. Take your pick of chicken, pork, beef, prawns or tofu, and it’ll arrive swimming in rich massaman sauce and peanuts.
