You can even go all out the old school way a classic tea cake and a nice cup of tea – those were the days. And the throwback wrapped-in-newspaper decor is a fitting testament to the British classic, but none of it overshadows the food here.

Pudsey locals have an award-winning chippy on their doorstep. The Bearded Sailor is a traditional fish & chip shop with a modern attitude – what’s more, they’ve landed a place on the Fry Awards 50 best fish & chip takeaways list for the last few years running.

But if that’s not enough to tempt you, their rich pie and meaty gravy surely will. If reviews are anything to go by, they offer some of the best customer service in town, friendly and personable, it’s the attentive staff that have earned this place local gem status.

With fresh Icelandic fish fried in a crisp batter, Murgatroyds in Yeadon has been serving up outstanding chippy teas for over 20 years. They do a mean fish & chips, but it’s not the only thing on the menu, so if you fancy something different, you’re in luck.
You can tuck into a wide selection of fishcakes, burgers and house specials, from haddock Italiano with a tomato sauce to ocean pie with creamy mash and cheese gratin. That being said, our favourite is the Sizzle & Sea Combo – you get fish and a jumbo sausage with chips – yum!

A wide-ranging menu and city centre location make Fish Out one of Leeds’ favourite chippies. But that’s not the only thing that sets them apart. They like to go the extra mile so they also offer gluten-free batter and only fry in vegetable oil – if you’re looking for a lighter option, this is the place to go.

Kirby’s is a must-visit for a fish and chip supper, with shops in Horsforth and Meanwood. All their food is cooked to order and freshly prepared. Captain of the ship is Andy Cromblehome, who has 20 years of industry experience under his belt.
He even led Kirby’s to be named amongst the very best in the annual Fry Awards. Take a bite of their MSC-approved Haddock, coated in a secret, special recipe batter with a portion of oh-so-fluffy chips to accompany.
