Heading to Light Night Leeds? Start your evening at Wellington Place, where giant stars, colourful projections and a silent disco await.

Light Night Leeds returns on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October 2026, transforming the city with spectacular illuminated installations. If you’re planning to explore it with the family, Wellington Place makes a brilliant starting point. It’s just a short walk from Leeds Station and offers a traffic-free space away from the busiest parts of the city centre.

Here’s everything you can expect at the Wellington Place Zone this Light Night.

The centrepiece of this year’s programme is Constellations by Studio Vertigo, an immersive installation suspended above the Wellington Place water feature.

An enormous 8.5-metre Supernova star will be joined by two 3.5-metre Nova stars, creating a constellation in the heart of the neighbourhood. Combining light, movement and music, the sensory installation will invite visitors to stop, look up and experience Wellington Place in a completely new way.

Over at the Lifting Tower, four colourful projections will light up the iconic landmark. Each projection has been created by students from Trinity Academy in collaboration with the Society of Light and Lighting. After 100 designs were shortlisted, the final four will be brought to life on one of Wellington Place’s most recognisable landmarks.

Get involved with family-friendly activities

Love a boogie? You’re in luck – Wellington Place’s popular silent disco is set to return for another year. Grab a headset, choose your channel and hit the dancefloor for a family-friendly party where you can sing like no one’s listening.

Little ones can add some extra colour to their evening with free face painting across the neighbourhood. Artists will use special UV glow paint to create dazzling designs that come alive beneath the lights – it’s a unique way to become a part of the Light Night spectacle and a great chance to grab glowed-up selfies.

There’s no need to explore Light Night on an empty stomach. Wellington Place is home to a wide selection of cafés, bars and restaurants, giving you plenty of options for a quick bite, a sit-down meal or a drink before heading further into the city.

There’ll also be hand-picked street food traders across both evenings, so you can pick something up without straying far from the installations and activities. With outdoor seating across the neighbourhood, you can take your time and tuck in under the stars.
