Rileys American Pool & Snooker Club

Where you find Belgrave Music Hall today, you used to find Rileys American Pool & Snooker Club – and now it’s making its long-awaited return to Leeds. A planning application has gone in to Leeds City Council to turn the former Job Centre on Albion Street into a new hub for cue games. Get ready to take your pick from both English and American pool, as well as full-size snooker, followed by darts, table tennis and shuffleboard, complete with its own bar and a menu of pizza and burgers.

Rileys American Pool & Snooker Club will open at 123 Albion Street later in 2024.

Nice Things Plant Shop

If you love plants and have been in Manchester recently, you might already know about Nice Things Plant Shop. This is a leafy utopia in the heart of the Northern Quarter and having conquered the flora-loving folk across the Pennines, they’re now heading over to Leeds to do exactly the same. They’re coming to Lower Briggate this summer, bringing all manner of beautiful plants and pots with them. But that’s not all – they have loads of accessories to keep your greenery healthy and they also host plant-based workshops.

Nice Things Plant Shop is opening on Lower Briggate in early summer 2024.

Tortilla

If you’ve been to Leeds Train Station recently, you might’ve spotted that KFC has left – but it won’t stand empty for long. The unit is being taken over by another tasty name in the form of Tortilla. They’re Trinity Kitchen stalwarts, serving up all manner of Mexican goodness which they’re set to bring to the station to add a flavour explosion to your commute. Their speciality is the burrito, and they pack it large, loaded with rice, veggies, meats (if you’re that way inclined) and all kinds of salsa. The salad bowls and tacos are cracking too.

Tortilla is opening in Leeds Train Station later in 2024.

Poke bowls are all the rage right now and Leeds city centre is about to get its first dedicated restaurant. They are a Hawaiian staple that combines a protein, usually raw fish, with spring onions, edamame beans, pickled cucumber, sesame seeds and crispy onions. Healthy and loaded with flavour, they’re a must-try, especially once Honi Poke opens in Leeds in addition to its 17 London and one Manchester location. You can get yellowfin tuna and Scottish salmon, alongside chicken or veggie options, or get creative and make your own!

Honi Poke will open in Trinity Leeds later in 2024.

Fruit & Veg On the Go

A range of different fruit and vegetables laid out on a table

Fruit & Veg On the Go has been running for a while now, but it’s about to step up its game this summer. For the past few years it has been a fruit and veg delivery service that drops off small, medium and large bags of fruit and/or veg in Leeds suburbs like Rothwell, Fulton, Woodlesford, Methley and Swillington. Now, they’ve got a permanent bricks and mortar shop. They’ll still do their fruit and veg bags, but also offer a pick-your-own selection for a minimum spend and their very own smoothie bar.

Fruit & Veg On the Go is opening on Marsh Street, Rothwell in summer 2024.

Get ready for quality coffee, homemade panini and a tasty line-up of Italian desserts – where else in Leeds will you be able to choose from five different types of homemade tiramisu?

It’s not a ghost and no, your eyes do not deceive you – Wilko is coming back! The troubled retailer went bust in 2023, but new owners CDS Superstores, who also run The Range, had promised to bring it back to towns and cities across the UK. Three have already reopened, now Leeds is set to be next on the cards, because it’s been revealed that a Wilko’s shop is going to open at Birstall Retail Park later in 2024. Get ready to get all your bits in one place again, from toiletries to DIY supplies, biscuits to toilet roll.

MALT is still in its early days, but it’s all set to become the new place to be in this town just outside of Leeds. So what can you expect? A quality cafe by day and a bar at night, all enjoyed from an old freezer shop on Low Street next to Tesco Express. Carefully selected wines, cocktails and beers, plus locally-sourced coffee and all manner of delicious meats, cheese and bread – it’s a match made in heaven and we can’t wait!
