It’s one of North Leeds’ most popular suburbs, and there are loads of things to do in Horsforth…

Green spaces, world-class bars and incredible restaurants, Horsforth is buzzing right now and we can’t spend enough time there. It was once one of the largest villages in the country, and now it’s a thriving Leeds suburb with a rich mix of cultural attractions, great eateries and a constant stream of exciting new independent openings that makes every visit a chance to experience something new. Whether you live there or you’re just visiting, there’s always discoveries to be made, so we did them for you – all you have to do is plan your day or night out!

Forde

A brown bowl of food at Forde restaurant in Horsforth on a wooden table

Matt Healy has now run enough excellent dining places that we should probably stop referring him to as the ‘former MasterChef: The Professionals’ contestant. In many ways, Forde is much more perfect than anything he’s done before, as lamented as they might be. An intimate dining room, a succinct menu, with every dish hitting the spot. This is elevated small plates dining, where a dish of wonderful chorizo might be chased by miso-glazed courgette or a roasted chicken with wild mushrooms. Oh, and the Sunday lunch is the stuff of dreams!

Forde, 7 Town Street, Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS18 5LJ.

A gorgeous slice of verdant space, this sprawl of urban parkland is one of the best things to do in Horsforth, packed full of charm and even a few surprises. Hall Park’s beautiful Japanese garden is a tranquil and relaxing spot to get away from it all, while there are plenty of places for cyclists, strollers and power walkers to do their thing. There’s also a cricket pitch, bowling green, a skate park and more. Gorgeous when the sun is roaring in summer, it’s still an oasis of russet colours in autumn and beyond.

The perfect neighbourhood trattoria (a small Italian restaurant), Il Forno is – whisper it – also one of the best pizza restaurants in Leeds, never mind just Horsforth. They do all the ‘red sauce’ classics here, making it the perfect place for date night or a catch-up with friends, but the kitchen can flex its muscles too. The Greek pizza with basil pesto, chicken and pepperoni is a perfect bomb of big flavours, while the sea bass effort shows a delicate touch. Leave room for the playbook of ever-reliable Italian desserts.

Opening in 2024, Bavette quickly made itself as a destination dining spot in the heart of Horsforth. This is a proper restaurant, run by Sandy Jarvis and Clément Cousin, whose extensive foodie credentials are mirrored in the finish of this must-visit dining room. Dark greens, gold mirrors and stylish lighting set the scene for an epic culinary trip around fine French fare – from braised lamb pithivier with purple broccoli and salsa verde to the rème brûlée adorned with Yorkshire rhubarb. The menu changes with the seasons, so you’ll want to book in for repeat visits.

Head down the stairs, past the hairdressers on your left, and into the taproom before pulling up a chair and supping Tiger Cub!, a 4.8% hazy pale made with Against the Grain, or perhaps Yeehaw, a 4.3% West Coast pale ale from Horsforth Brewery themselves.

Since opening back in 2020, they’ve slowly built a reputation for cooking up some of the best sausage rolls in Leeds, and it’s clear to see why. Flavours change regularly, but in the past have included Bengali, traditional pork and chilli and fennel.
