It may be inspired by Scandi coffee culture, but Fika North know a thing or two about filling a bagel too – in fact, they serve some of the best in Leeds. You can get your hands on all manner of freshly-made hole-y creations all day long at this ultra-cosy Headingley cafe. The crunchy peanut butter and banana combo offers a sweet take, while the chunky chickpea hummus is a lesson in vegan bagel excellence. But it’s the pastrami beef that really steals the show. This classic comes packed with pastrami beef, jack cheese, sweet mustard and pickles.

Winnebagel Cafe

The clue’s in the name – Winnebagel is a Pudsey cafe that’s all about the bagel. Their breakfast rings are toasted golden and filled with fried eggs, sausage and crispy bacon. Nipping by for lunch? Their feta and hummus comes with lettuce, tomato and cucumber on your choice of bagel. Or, go for their deliciously reliable Rachel for Rachel melt. Adorned with pastrami, cheddar and swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian sauce, it’s equal parts sweet, spicy and tasty. You’ll want to keep an eye out for weekly and seasonal specials.

Slow Rise Bakery have been rolling, boiling and delivering baked goods to Leeds cafes since 2015, but now you can pick up their incredible bagels at their very own Horsforth cafe. Plain, poppy seed, sesame or pretzel salt? Once you’ve chosen your bagel, it’s time to fill it up. They do all the classics, from their triple nut peanut butter to the salmon and cream cheese. Fancy a classic favourite? The salt beef with gherkins and mustard is a must-try. Keep an eye out for their ever-changing array of daily specials, cakes and pretzels too.

The Street Lane Bakery

The Street Lane Bakery is a proper community bakehouse. They do all kinds of baked goods, but it’s their bagels that steal the show. They’re made fresh each day to classic Jewish recipes, and come in an array of ever-changing flavours, from poppy seed to onion. They have a small menu of fillings – will you go for the tuna or smoked salmon? If you’d like to eat in, you can pair it with a cup of coffee. Don’t have time? You can grab a pack of freshly baked bagels to go, so you can make your favourite combo at home.

Bagels are the food of choice at Doghouse. They’re handmade daily and come in all types of flavours, from classics like plain and poppy seed to more adventurous creations like cinnamon raisin. Choose your favourite and get it filled with all kinds of sweet treats – peanut butter, jam or Nutella anyone? If you prefer savoury, go for one of their hot lunch bagels, like the Philly cheesesteak or all day breakfast. Waiting for your train and fancy a bite to eat? It can only be Bagel Factory. This hole-in-the-wall may be small, but boy, is their bagel selection mighty. We’re talking a 29-strong menu, ranging from breakfast treats to veggie and vegan goodness. First up, choose your bagel, be it plain or poppy seeds, and then pick your filling. Will it be the bacon and egg, smothered in brown sauce? Or perhaps the vegan cream cheese stack, complete with avocado, cucumber and vegan mayo? They even have a peanut butter and toffee banana if you want to satiate your sweet tooth.
