Wood Hall Hotel & Spa

The swimming pool at Wood Hall Hotel, a Yorkshire spa day destination

This country house hotel manages the tricky balancing act of being both stately and welcoming, a place that wears its grandeur comfortably. The building’s ivy-clad exterior and manicured gardens set the tone for seamless service that gets you in the spa zone straight away.

Staying over feels like a rare treat, with rooms that wrap you in a hug. We’re talking cashmere mattresses, sleigh beds, garden views and even four posters. They offer a fine afternoon tea, or you can really indulge in their acclaimed restaurant. Shiitake soy braised pork cheek? Why not?

The spa is equally top notch, with a 12-metre indoor pool the ideal spot for a relaxing dip or a few easy lengths before you enter the spa pool or steam room. You can try everything from a luxury pedicure to ELEMIS facials and even a hot stone massage to really get those knots out.

The Bridge Hotel & Spa

Verdant Yorkshire countryside surrounds you at The Bridge Hotel & Spa, setting the tone for the first-class service that awaits you at this renovated and very restorative 17th-century coaching inn. You can get away from it all here, but if you want to be more engaged, there’s always something going on – a murder mystery night, perhaps, or the monthly pudding club.

The 37 rooms here all have individual touches, and the standard rooms already feel deluxe. Want more space? The club rooms welcome you with a decanter of port and a pipe of Pringles – the perfect combo. You can also imbibe in the whiskey bar or dine on comfort-food classics.

As for the spa, there’s everything you’ll ever need, including couples treatments for the perfect romantic weekend. Get filthy in the Rasul mud room, then soak your cares away in the outdoor hot tubs. The soothing scent in the Nordic barrel sauna? That’s applewood vapour. Heavenly.
