Instituto Cervantes
First, a little introduction. Instituto Cervantes was created by the Spanish government in 1991 to help promote their language and culture. They have 88 centres around the world, including one right here in Leeds. They have a packed calendar of Spanish lessons that will take you from beginner to advanced, available both online and in-person with 30 hours of teaching across 12 weeks.
They also offer intensive, revision and conversation courses, not to mention a Spanish choir, library and online reading club. They also offer lessons for children and teenagers, if you’ve got a budding multi-linguist in the family. Plus, you can get DELE certified here.

Language for Fun

If the idea of textbooks, homework and exams is putting you off learning Spanish in Leeds, you might want to try Language for Fun. Their classes are designed for adults, but use games and interactivity to make things more interesting. There’s a real focus on conversation here – everyone speaks and everyone engages in the class, but you’re never put on the spot.
You can learn online or in-person – whichever you choose, you’ll have ten 90-minute classes as you work your way towards the kind of conversational Spanish that makes holidaying easy. Want to try your skills out? They usually get together for an end-of-term tapas meal at a Spanish restaurant so you can try ordering in your new language!

Horsforth Evening Classes
If you’re looking for something local, where you can make friends and pick up a new skill, Horsforth Evening Classes is a great shout. It’s an independent, not-for-profit group for the local community, and the emphasis in the lessons is very much on doing your best, joining in and learning in a fun, inclusive way.
Their two Spanish courses are run across three terms – don’t worry if you miss the autumn intake, you can just wait for spring or summer to roll around. Beginners Spanish will introduce you to the basics, while Spanish Improvers helps you expand your vocabulary. Both classes are two hours long and are held on Wednesday nights.

The University of Leeds
Serious about learning Spanish? Want to make it more than a hobby? Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, so why not make a career of it? By doing an undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, you’ll develop your spoken and written Spanish to a high level, as well as learning about the culture of the Spanish-speaking world.
This full-time, four-year degree includes a year abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, so you can put your skills into practice, alongside optional modules in translation and business language to help you get work-ready. 4-year Spanish BAs require ABB A-level including A in Spanish or equivalent.
