The shelves at Itsu are a technicolour array of tempting goodness, which means it’s not just popular for takeaways but also one of the most inviting healthy restaurants in Leeds city centre.
The dishes all come with calorie counts, making it easy to watch what you eat – the detox miso noodle soup, for example, is just 190 calories and contains iodine, calcium and vitamin B6. There are veg-packed noodle bowls, such as the Vitality glass noodle bowl, topped with four chicken gyozas, a nutritious veg mix, miso broth and sunflower seeds. The sushi is freshly prepared and can be washed down with invigorating vegetable or fruit smoothies.
Where: Itsu, 36-38 Commercial Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6EX.
What we’d order: The tuna tartare poké bowl. At 684 calories it’s a little higher than other options, but it packs a protein punch, weighing in at a mighty 25g.
House of Fu

The flavour-packed ramen bowls at House of Fu are a sure-fire hit – they’re an invigorating meal on their own – but the most virtuous choice at this fast-but-good food joint are the super bowls.
You’ll get plenty of your five-a-day if you scoff the Fu cauliflower bowl, with crispy cauliflower, kimchi, pickled cucumbers and spring onion accompanying hot sauce, kimchi, Kewpie mayo and rice. With a real tang from the kimchi and a kick from the hot sauce, there’s no slacking on flavour. The mighty teriyaki chicken bowl is another winner, loaded up with chicken thigh, spring onion, nori, pickled ginger and an egg.
Where: House of Fu, 15-19 The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6PU.
What we’d order: The Fu cauliflower bowl with an extra portion of probiotic-packed kimchi.

Indian food might conjure images of sauces laden with cream, breads and other things you probably want to avoid on a health kick, but not at Rola Wala.
The menu here is packed with healthy options that prove the most energising and rejuvenating food can be spiced to perfection. You can build your own rice, cauliflower and salad bowls, or start with a naan roll if you’re not carb-dodging. After that, add ingredients like the popular chicken tikka or ed channa dal for all the fuller-for-longer protein. They only use fresh ingredients, so you get all the flavour without losing any of the goodness, plus all rolls and bowls are under 500 calories as standard.
Where: Rola Wala, Trinity Kitchen, Albion Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5AY.
What we’d order: The Goan roast pork rice bowl for a lunch that’s full of fibre and flavour.

Here, grilling is more novelty than chore, especially if you’re watching what you eat because you can control exactly what you have for dinner. Will it be lean pork, prawn brushed with lemon juice or beef with the unmistakable hit of sesame oil? There’s even a vegan set, complete with tofu, mixed vegetables and glass noodles. After cooking, wrap it up in a lettuce leaf with rice, veggies, pickles and more, then choose whether or not to plunge it into one of the broths.
