Start your night at the theatre with dinner at one of the most romantic restaurants in Leeds. Kendells is a French bistro with a reputation for serving up delicious eats minutes away from West Yorkshire Playhouse – and you can get three courses for £21.95 or the same with half a bottle of wine for £28.95. The menu changes regularly, but you could try ox cheek with mashed potato, vegetables and red wine jus or salmon en croûte with spinach and tomato beurre blanc. Their pre-theatre dinner is available from 5.30pm to 8pm Tuesday to Thursday or 5.30pm to 7pm Friday and Saturday.

If you’re catching a show at The Carriageworks, Thai Edge is just across the road. It’s a beautiful restaurant that lives and breathes its oriental heritage. Their early bird menu offers 2 courses for £14.50, which is an absolute steal. Start with crispy aromatic duck, tom kha soup or a mixed sharing platter, before you set to work on your main. They have 11 dishes for you to choose from – will it be beef massaman curry or will you go for chicken with cashew nuts? The early bird menu is available from 5.30pm to 7pm, Monday to Saturday.

A stone’s throw from Leeds Grand Theatre, Ham & Friends is a great place to go for a bite to eat before the show – especially because you can get a 15% discount on their usual menu. You can get 3 courses for just £23, so take a seat in their rustic bar-cum-restaurant and prepare for a delicious feast. Start with mussels in Provencal sauce or The Reliance charcuterie board, before you move onto Erdinger battered fish and chips or Toulouse sausage with braised lentils and a herb crumb. There are plenty of options, and you can choose from the ever-changing selection of puddings on the blackboard. The pre-theatre menu is served from 5.30pm to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday.

Whitelock’s has a very special menu for Leeds Grand Theatre ticket holders. You can get 3 courses for just £17, which is an absolute bargain. Tuck into pan-fried Yorkshire chorizo, mint and peas on a toasted crumpet or chickpea & carrot scotch egg, before you enjoy Lishman’s sausage and mash with ale and onion gravy. They don’t have set times, instead you have to flash your ticket to get the deal.

Teppanyaki is just across the road from Leeds Grand Theatre and it’s got a special 3-course set menu for £19.95. Start with California rolls or vegetable tempura, before tucking into mains like chicken teriyaki with pepper and onion or king prawns with fine beans, ginger and spring onion. Save room for dessert, because they’ll be serving up ice cream, melon or a fruit salad. The pre-theatre menu is available anytime before 6.30pm from Sunday to Thursday.
