Knoops

They may be best known for their decadent hot chocolate, but Knoops make a mean ice cream. As you can imagine, they’re a major sweet tooth fix, with the creamy soft serve being available in a cone or a tub. And of course, their exquisite chocolate still takes centre stage.
You can top your ice cream with your choice of 28% white, 34% milk or 54% dark chocolate flakes – or skip the flakes altogether if you prefer – and it’ll come complete with a Knoops chocolate disc to top it off. Their ice cream also comes blended in a range of milkshakes if you’re feeling thirsty.
Our order: A cone topped with the 54% dark chocolate flakes for that cocoa hit.
Where? Knoops, Trinity Centre, 26-28 Albion Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6HX.
Melting Point
Leeds’ newest ice cream spot, you can find Melting Point downstairs in the Corn Exchange. They may look unassuming but owner Johno takes his scoops seriously, finding inspiration from the many sweet indulgences he’s enjoyed on his travels. Flavours change every day too, so there’s always a reason for a revisit.
They don’t skimp on the favourites, with the likes of vanilla custard and 80% Colombian chocolate featuring on the menu. But they’re also not afraid to get inventive – think rice pudding and goats cheese & stem ginger.
Our order: A scoop of creamy coconut with zesty orange sorbet on the side.
Where? Melting Point, The Piazza Level, Leeds Corn Exchange, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 7BR.
Tsujiri

Tsujiri offers ice cream with a twist. While this dessert house is best known in Leeds for its yummy matcha and tasty Japanese teas, they also do a fine line in delicious soft serve. They have two permanent flavours – matcha and kinako (roasted soybean) – but often introduce new seasonal variations like cherry blossom and black sesame.
You can grab it in a cone or a tub, but we love their sundaes, topped with tapioca pearls, sesame seeds and wafers. After something different? Add a dollop of soft serve to a matcha latte for an ice cream float with a twist.
Our order: It would be rude not to get one of their signature scoops of matcha ice cream!
Where? Tsujiri, 17 Ludgate Hill, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 7HZ.
Ice Scoop Gelato

Want something a little more indulgent? Try their waffles or even cookie dough! Choose from classic gelato flavours like strawberry, French vanilla and chocolate, or push the boat out with red velvet and Ferrero Rocher.
Our order: The Oreo Crunchy Sensation sundae – a true crowdpleaser!
Where? Ice Scoop Gelato, 41 Queen’s Road, Hyde Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 1HY; 8 Easterly Road, Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS8 3AA & 43-45 Station Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS15 5DT.
Amorino

Alas, that would be a crying shame because they use high-quality ingredients like Isigny butter, Mawardi pistachios and Madagascan vanilla to create an unparalleled scoop. You could be licking the likes of lime & basil, stracciatella or dulce de leche. Vegan? They have a range of dairy-free sorbets to choose from (including chocolate) as well as vegan cones.
Our order: The Tiramisu cone – the creamy taste and coffee tones transport us to Tuscany.
Where? Amorino, Victoria Gate, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 7AU.

Ice Stone Gelato

Got a sweet tooth? Ice Stone Gelato is one of the best places in Leeds for gelato and desserts. Their gelato menu spans the usual flavours like strawberry, mint crisp and coffee, but you can also get more indulgent options like Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter and Kinder Bueno.
Pile up to four scoops in a tub, or if you’re feeling creative, you can make your own sundae with your choice of three scoops, two toppings and two sauces, as well as fresh cream and a wafer. With so many options, you can try something different every time.
Our order: One scoop of Cookies & Cream and one scoop of Creamy Hazelnut. Yum, yum, yum!
Where? Ice Stone Gelato, St Johns Centre, Albion Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 8LQ.
The Milk Churn

If it’s exquisite gelato you’re craving, head to The Milk Churn, a cafe situated on a working Leeds dairy farm. The owners actually trained at the Gelato University in Bologna, bringing their degree-level ice cream expertise back to share it with the good people of Yorkshire.
Using premium ingredients and milk straight from the farm, they’ve whipped up 16 gelato flavours, each as delicious as the next. Classics cover vanilla and mint choc chip, while you can also get more unusual varieties like ricotta & fig and lemon meringue. Dairy free? Never fear, they have three types of sorbet – mango, raspberry and strawberry & mint.
Our order: The moreish banoffee gelato scoop – with a taste of the tart but creamy blackcurrant too.
Where? The Milk Churn, Beech Grove Farm, Wetherby Road, Scarcroft, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS14 3HQ.
