Sitting pretty on Great George Street, Harlow’s Den is a Leeds hair salon that’s sure to catch your eye – and not just from the bold colours within. Their team prides themselves on their inclusivity, they live and breathe creativity, and their ethos is that individuality trumps all – incredible transformations are their thing, and every client is sure to walk away with a unique haircut.
The hairstylists themselves give off a chill, laid-back vibe, but the decor certainly doesn’t reflect this. Teisha’s Hair & Beauty is one of the only hairdressers in Leeds solely dedicated to Afro and Caribbean hair. With beginnings in Jamaica, owner Nateisha Dewdney set up her popular salon in 2011 after extensive training in both her home country and Leeds – one trip here will be sure to turn you into a regular pretty quickly, thanks to her magic hands and the oh-so-welcoming atmosphere.
So what can you get? The hairdressers here will take you step-by-step through all the treatments and processes they offer, so whether you plump for cornrows, cuts, colours or a complete style overhaul, you’ll work together to achieve the ‘do of your dreams. And as the good folk of Leeds have flocked to her shop, Teisha decided to listen to demand and expand her salon into a hair and beauty product store as well. If you want to enjoy an ice-cold pint after your trim, Outlaws Hair Company is the place to go. Hidden away inside Outlaws Yacht Club on New York Street, it’s not just a hair salon, but also a creative hangout, café, bar and exhibition space that we love coming back to. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a cooler hairdressers in Leeds.
Everyone’s welcome at Outlaws, and they pride themselves on being LGBTQ+ inclusive. It doesn’t have that cold, clinical vibe that some salons have – quite the opposite, in fact – think funky prints, vibrantly coloured mirrors and a jungle of plants. When it comes to haircuts, they don’t conform to gender roles, instead categorising their prices into short, medium and long. Their Great George Street outpost is a thing of beauty – they leaned into the period style of the Georgian property, but have given it a relaxing and homely vibe.
