Outside the hustle and bustle of Leeds and through the rolling countryside is where you’ll find one of the most beautiful farm houses in Yorkshire.

Last week, our travels took us to the sleepy village of Ledsham, where we checked out the beautiful Church Farm. On the market for the first time in 25 years, its storied past, original features and sprawling gardens mean it’ll set you back a cool £1.35 million, but we were lucky enough to call it home for a few hours.

With a population of only 167, the village was serenely quiet when we arrived, with only the sounds of pigeons cooing to keep us company. The house was easy to find, nestled beside Yorkshire’s oldest church, the Church of All Saints. Its gorgeous Yorkshire stone exterior is draped with lush wisteria and greenery, making it a true standout – a hard feat in a village as beautiful as Ledsham.

We headed round the back and through the farmhouse-style kitchen, where we were immediately drawn to the exposed wooden beams, rustic brick walls and stone-flagged flooring, all of which date back hundreds of years after the house was saved from dereliction. The cabinets are painted a lovely pastel sage, adding a splash of colour and sophistication.

Next, we moved to the lounge, once the cowshed of the old farm. The space is huge, so you can arrange it how you’d like – the current owners even have a grand piano. An arched ceiling separates the room, with those beams and brick walls that we love so much making an appearance again. The thick stone walls and electric fireplace are sure to add warmth on chilly days.

Across the way there’s a cosy snug, with a rich, mulberry-coloured feature wall – we could imagine ourselves hunkering down for a lovely evening here. This led us on nicely to one of our favourite features about the property – the stunning galleried landing. The oak bannisters gracefully guide you up the stairs, where a breathtaking chandelier commands attention at the centre.

The house boasts five bedrooms. The master bedroom opens to the full pitch of the roof, with exposed beams, trusses and an en-suite tucked away in the corner. It’s worth noting that, in keeping with the period style of the home, the windows are single-glazed with a solid wood frame, but future owners will have no problem installing double-glazing should they wish.

At this point, we were dying to go downstairs and explore the garden. Stepping through the dining room’s French doors, we were immediately struck by the size of it – over half an acre, to be exact. The first portion is made up of an extensive sun terrace, with stone steps leading up to a large enclosed lawned garden area, complete with apple and pear trees.

So, there you have it. Church Farm is a house that encapsulates the very best of Yorkshire, with its lush countryside surroundings and quaint village sitting. It’s a home that’s perfect for raising a family, throwing a celebration, relaxing in the sunshine, cosying up on a cold evening and more – and it could be yours next.
